Most fuel injected vehicles no longer experience vapor lock, since fuel circulates continuously thru the fuel rail and back to the tank. More likely, you have an electrical part which gets hot once you shut the truck off. You need to test for spark to the plugs, and also correct fuel pressure when it fails to start and see which is lacking.
Sounds like you may have a fuel injector bleeding off when you shut it off, causing a flooding problem. If you can test the fuel pressure to see if it loses pressure after the engine is turned off that would help diagnose the problem. Depending on what vehicle it is, it could also be a bad fuel pressure regulator.
For some reason aleros have this problem every once in awhile. It might be the security on the alero. What you would have to do is turn the key all the way to accel i believe right before you start it and let it sit for about 13 minutes. affter this the security will recognise itself and start your car
Fuel pump. try key on 2 or 3 times and see if it starts right up. this builds up pressure to the injectors. You can also do a fuel pressure check to see. Also check the codes, even if the light is not on.
sound like either leaking injector or failing fuel pump/check valve
cannot diagnose with a scan tool because you need to run a power balance test
however, being that the vehicle is 8 years old, I'd shoot for the pump first.
to confirm leak down you will need a fuel pressure tester installed before you shut the vehicle down, then wait a few hours and check fuel pressure before turning the key on. fuel pressure should be withing a few psi of what it was when you parked the vehicle
When are you taking the fuel pressure reading? After it has sat for awhile or right after you shut the truck off when you get it running? Have you tested the pressure right before you try to start it cold?
I would check the pressure right after shutting the truck off, then wait an hour and check it, and once again after another hour. If you lose fuel pressure then you either have a bad fuel pressure regulator or you have a loose fitting / cracked line or some problem that allows air in the fuel line causing the fuel to syphon back to the fuel tank.
The next time you try and start it cold, turn the key to the on position and listen for the fuel pump whine to stop, then turn the key off and repeat above step 2 or 3 more times. If it is losing pressure, then doing that will build your fuel pressure back up and it will start.
Check the pressures and report back your findings.
two things come to mind....
1- a electrical component may be heat sensitive and not function after turn off heat soak
2- your fuel pump check valve isn't holding fuel pressure in the fuel loop
Next time check for spark...if thers's spark it's a fuel problem
Had same problem with a Yukon. Turned out to be a bad fuel pump (Won't show codes.) When cold ran fine, heated up, no pressure. Would start after sitting for about 1/2 hour. When engine dies on you check for fuel pressure under the hood.
