I think you need to go in from the backside to get the bulb out. Open the trunk and look at the backside of the light housing. There should be a small panel with wires sticking out of it that you can turn and pull out to get to the bulb.

Replace headlight assembly

The halogen replacement bulb assemblies go in at the rear of the headlight plastic housing. It's just a twist lock to remove the lamp. After removal of the burnt out bulbs, do not touch the new halogen bulb with your fingers, latex gloves work best. oils from your fingers will cause the outer glass to break when bulb gets hot

How to change headlight on 2000 galant

  • 1
Place the Mitsubishi on a flat service in park. Set the parking brake before continuing.

  • 2Open the Galant's hood and locate the headlight cover -- roughly 3-inch wide circular piece of plastic -- behind the headlight bulb intended for replacement. Turn this cover clockwise to unlock it and pull it from the headlight assembly, exposing the headlight socket below it.

Hold the rear of the headlight socket and turn it counterclockwise to unlock it. Pull the headlight socket and bulb from the headlight assembly.

Grab the bulb and pull it from the socket with a slight wiggling motion.

Pick up the new 9003 headlight bulb using a clean, lint-free cloth and line up its prong with the slots in the socket. Never tough the bulb with your bare hands, as the oils left by your hands can cause the bulb to burn out prematurely.

Slide the socket and new bulb into the headlight assembly and turn the socket clockwise to lock it into place.

Place the plastic cover behind the bulb and turn it counterclockwise to lock it into place.

Repeat Steps 1 through 7 for the headlight bulb on the other side of the Galant, if needed.

    9Close the Galant's hood.

How to change the bulb in 1999 RAV-4

      • Open the RAV4's hood and locate the headlight bulbs plugging into the rear of the headlight assemblies. Each assembly has two bulbs, one outer and one inner. Unplug the wiring harness from the rear of the burnt-out headlight, by pressing the locking button and pulling down on the harness.
      • 2Grab the rear of the bulb and rotate the bulb about a quarter turn counterclockwise to unlock it. Pull the bulb from the headlight assembly.
      • Grab a new 9005 (high beam) or 9006 (low beam) bulb by its plastic base. Insert the bulb in the rear of the headlight assembly, lining up the tabs on the bulb with the notches in the headlight assembly, and twist it clockwise to lock the bulb in place. Do not touch the glass part of the headlight bulb, as the oils from your hands can cause the bulb to fail prematurely.
      • 4Plug the wiring harness into the receptacle on the rear of the bulb

Headlights don't work on 99 beetle please help

The bulbs burn out often, being as they are on all the time . You have to pull each head lamp assembly out of the housing in the fender to access the bulb.

You cannot change the bulb as you would on other vehicles. This job is a little difficult for the first time but fortunately there are some good tutorials on line you can read. Google'' for more info.

Check your fuses first. There are fuses in the end of the dash and you pry off the plastic cover with a small flat blade screwdriver. Panel is not accessible with the doors closed.

The Beetle also likes to burn the fuses in the battery area. There are 30amp 'Green' fuses in a plastic housing above the battery under the hood. Check to see they have not burnt out in their holders.

Look inside the engine compartment at the headlamp side you are needing to replace.
You will see a 1.5" plastic lever extending from headlight assembly.

To remove headlight, push the small black button (is about 1/4" x 1/2" and has cross-hatched stamp in metal) until you can move the lever from the down position to the full up position.

The headlight assembly should release a few centimeters. You should then be able to grab a hold of the headlight assembly and gently twist back and forth until the headlight releases and comes out.

Final step is to unhook the electrical wires by simply pulling the cap from the connection.

Remove black cover from assembly and replace bulb.

When you push the assembly back into the housing you need to make sure the electrical captive socket goes home in to the head lamp fully.

The last fraction of an inch will need a firm push on the lens to get it home.

    I hope this helps you.

How do I change the back turn signal on my 2001 ford taurus

DIY - 5 Minute Turn Signal Bulb Replacement This is very simple to do. First you will need an 8mm socket and wrench to loosen one bolt. Second a good long flat head screwdriver. There are two black metal folded tabs behind the headlight assembly and one 8mm bolt holding it in plae at the center point of the front of the car. Loosen the bolt and remove. Use the screw driver to pull up the metal straps and then slide forward the entire assembly. This will slide easily unless your front bumper has been bumped! That will make it a little difficult to slide if it is out of alignment. If it was never bumped than this should take all of 5 minutes.

Replacing front parking lamp/turn signal/cornering lamp bulbs
    1. Remove headlight / lens assembly per below steps mentioned later

    2. Rotate the bulb socket of the offending bulb counterclockwise and remove from the lamp assembly.

    3. Carefully pull bulb straight out of the socket and push in the new bulb

    4. Install the bulb socket into the headlight assembly by rotating it clockwise

    5. Re-install headlight assembly - hold snugly into place until the brackets line up and retainer pins can be pushed down

    To replace headlight bulb:
    1. Make sure headlight switch is turned OFF.

    2. Remove the bolt at the end of the headlamp housing.

    3. Pull the two black tabs with the L shaped bracket toward the back and then up and pull out(Located at the back of the headlamp) to release the headlamp assembly from the vehicle and pull headlamp assembly forward.

    4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb by pulling it.

    5. Remove the bulb socket retaining ring by rotating it counterclockwise.

    6. Remove the bulb from the lamp assembly by pulling straight back.
Do not twist, as there are alignment slots built into the lamp assembly socket.
It may take some effort to remove the lamp because it has a rubber o-ring type seal - try a bit of wiggling side-to-side

    7. Insert new bulb into headlight assembly - don't touch the glass - use gloves, paper towel, or similar
Make sure that the flat surface of the bulb socket is facing upward, and is firmly seated

    8. Re-attach retainer ring by rotating clockwise

    9. Reconnect the electrical harness

    10. Re-install headlight assembly - hold snugly into place until the brackets line up and retainer pins can be pushed down

    • Do not touch the glass of the new halogen bulb - the oils in the skin will shorten the life-span of the new bulb, or possibly cause the bulb to explode when first turned on

If the bulb is accidentally touched, it should be cleaned with rubbing alcohol before being used.

    Replacing headlight

    Composite Headlights
Most of the vehicles covered by this manual are equipped with composite headlight assemblies. Due to space constraints, no access may be provided to withdraw the bulbs, so the replacement usually requires removal of the composite assembly.

CAUTION The composite headlight assemblies use Halogen bulbs which contain a gas under pressure. Improper handling of the bulb could cause it to shatter into flying glass fragments. To help avoid personal injury, follow the precautions closely.

Exploded view of the composite headlight mounting—1995-97 model shown

Whenever handling a Halogen bulb, ALWAYS follow these precautions:
    • Turn the headlight switch OFF and allow the bulb to cool before changing it. Leave the switch OFF until the change is complete.
    • ALWAYS wear eye protection when changing a halogen bulb.
    • Handle the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass.
    • DO NOT drop or scratch the bulb.
    • Keep dirt and moisture off the bulb.
    • Place the used bulb in the new bulb's carton and dispose of it properly.
    1. Raise the hood and locate the bulb mounting location at the rear of the composite headlamp body.
    2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    3. If necessary for access, remove the splash shield or side marker lamp(s).
    4. On some models it may be necessary to remove the side marker lamp.
Unfasten the thumb screws, then ...

    1. If there is enough room to access the plastic base, press in and turn the base 1/4 turn counterclockwise and remove from the metal retaining ring by gently pulling back and away from the headlight. Remove the electrical connector from the bulb by raising the lock tab and pulling the connector down and away from the bulb's plastic base.
    2. If you can't access the bulb from the engine compartment, unfasten the thumb screws, and/or other retainers, then pull the composite headlight assembly forward slightly and disengage the wiring connector. Press in and turn the base 1/4 turn counterclockwise and remove the bulb from the metal retaining ring by gently pulling back and away from the headlight.
... pull the headlight assembly away from the vehicle for access to the bulb and connector

Remove the retaining ring from the base of the bulb, then ...

... turn the bulb and remove it from the headlight assembly

    To install:
    1. Attach the electrical connector on the new bulb's plastic base making sure that the lock tab is in place.
    2. Install the bulb by inserting the smallest tab located on top of the plastic base into the corresponding notch in the metal retaining ring. Turn clockwise 1/4 turn until it stops. The small plastic tab should be at the top of the metal ring.
    3. Install the composite headlight assembly, then secure with the retainers.
    4. Connect the negative battery cable, then check for proper headlight operation.
