Hi there I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have bought a focus 1.8 tdi 1999 v reg. The car is now failing to start at all. It turns over and has good compression but not sure if it might be a fuel problem. Is there any was I can test this PLEASE HELP.

try to refresh them with a grinding polisher like safecut or similar is the same compound with one who the painters use to remove scratches from the cars paint.dont use electric polisher try by hand amazing results!i have done this to mine.
hi mate it sounds like a lazy starter moter but failing in that a one off problem is try changing your oil yeah it sound silly but a have had one in the past and that was the problem as the oil sank to the sump over nite and caused it like a dry friction once it was started and oil was up it would fire all day
You can replace the fuel pump. The pump itself is about $130-$155. The fuel pump should be accessible by going under the rear seats in your car. If you cannot access the pump under the rear seats you would need to drop the tank. Prior to opening the access door make sure you unscrew the gas cap. I will put more detailed instructions tomorrow after confirming the location of the fuel pump.
