GM Had A Recall Issue W/Dashboard Cluster, Speedometer ... Etc ... I Would Goto Your Dealer And Say That. But If You Don't Have A Warrenty Or Such, If Your Familier W/Your Truck And We All Are .... You Know That That's Just HopeFully A FAULTY Dummy Gauge As They Refferred To Them In The Ole Day... But If You Reg Change Your Oli @ Every 3000-5000 Miles As Suggested, You Know Exactl;y Where Your Truck Is, I WAs Recommended The Same Thing, But My Fix Was To Just Install A Aftermarket Oil Pressure Gauge, Which they Are More In -expensive Then This New Gauge For You Dashboard Oil Light.... Unfortunately But They Are Twice As Reliable, Hope Any Of This Was Of Some Help, James W

What to check when oil pressure gauge flucuates while driving a jeep cherokee

To verify there is a problem, remove the oil pressure sending unit, replace it with a test gauge, start the car, idle, accelerate etc and watch the gauge for any abnormal variations it should react to evry change in acceleration and not be below the minimum or above the max as per the service specs.

whistling noise is prob. intake leak or emmissions air flow problem, the oil gauge, is either , oilpump screen clogged, or gauge prob. or if a lot of miles it could be the engine is just getting weak, or oil pump itself. check oil level, and sensor for leaks .

The oil pressure gauge is going directly from 0-80.....as soon as you crank up the vehicle....Its running fine, no lights have come on, running smooth like normal, its just that the gauge in the dashboard...

It sounds like there is a problem with the oil pressure sending circuit. The oil pressure sender changes voltage according to the differences in oil pressure. If it is pegged all the way to the max, there may be a short (or open, depending on the way the circuit is designed). I would take it to a shop and have the oil pressure tested with a mechanical gauge first, just to be sure there isn't a problem with the relief valve on the oil pump. But if the oil pressure gauge isn't working properly, you won't know if there really is a problem with the oil pressure, and that could be catastrophic to the engine.
