I have the same problem...My springs are closer to 7 or 8 inches in length and are about 3/4 inch in Diameter. I was told they make the seat return to either upright or to pull forward. Someone also told me that you can't fix it without taking out the seat. I would like to know if this is true. I want to know where it attaches to so I can fix it if possible.

    thanks

there is one spring under each seat. they are about 12" long. when i pull the handle to move the seat into the full-forward position i have to "scoot" the seat forward. i think these springs are supposed to aid in returning the seat to the forward position, but they weren't connected to anything on either end. hope this helps. thanks, teri

If you reposition the seat, does it move normally and lock into place? A spring that big (you say you found one but refer to multiple springs in your message) could be from the adjustment handles. Look for hooks on the end of the handles that have nothing attached.

The spring is for height adjustment. all other functions will still work. the only fix is to replace the seat frame which is very expensive. you can actually still adjust the height but not while you are in the seat your weight will keep it from raising. Just remove the spring so it doesnt jam under the seat and everything else will continue working fine.

How do I remove the rear seat in my 1999 Ford Contour?

It is held down by spring wire clips. Just push in on them really hard and the seat will release. Run a screwdriver under seat to locate the spring clips. The seat back just unbolts and lifts up and out.

Where are the fuses located for the air conditioner in a 2001 pontiac bonneville

The interior fuse box in a Pontiac Bonneville is underneath the backseat on the driver's side.

To remove the rear seat cushion:
1. Pull up on the front of the cushion to release the
front hooks.
2. Pull the cushion up and out toward the front of
the vehicle.

To reinstall the rear seat cushion:

1. Buckle the center passenger position safety belt, then
route the safety belts through the proper slots in the
seat cushion. Don't let the safety belts get twisted.
2. Slide the rear of the cushion up and under the
seatback so the rear - locating guides hook into the
wire loops on the back frame.
3. With the seat cushion lowered, push rearward and
then press down on the seat cushion until the spring
locks on both ends engage.
4. Check to make sure the safety belts are properly
routed and that no portion of any safety belt is
trapped under the seat. Also make sure the seat
cushion is secured.

Notice:
The battery and main fuse blocks are located
under the rear seat cushion. The battery's ground
terminal and some relay wires are exposed.
To help avoid damage to the battery and wires,
be careful when removing or reinstalling the seat
cushion. Do not remove covers from covered
parts. Do not store anything under the seat, as
objects could touch exposed wires and cause
a short.

Remove rear bench seat

I don't know about your exact make, but every bench rear seat bottom I ever messed with removed as follows:

Get your fingers under the bottom of the seat cushion, and give a sharp tug upwards.
It should be held in by spring clips, which will release with the upward tug.
With the front of the seat cushion slightly raised (so the spring clips can clear the brackets), it should then pull straight forward and out.

To re-install, push the cushion back under the seat back (with the front slightly raised), and with both hands, give a sharp push downwards to latch the spring clips.

What is the fuse and electrical under the driver seat?

best advice here is to either ask a mechanic to have a look for you or the dealer as under the seat of these vehicles is a lot of electrical gear ,as for the AC --well the gas used is corrosive and after a while it needs re-gassing normally when vehicle is about 4 yrs old then as it get older you gas it every spring ,this R134 gas is extremely corrosive to the seals and the steel pipe so this is to be expected.

Front seats won't lock in place

You just need to replace the locking rod under the seat. You just give it a twist and it will come out from under the seat towards the front. The spring may not be connected either, it may have fallen off.

Front seat stays in the reclined postion..

The seat position is changed through the use of a cable that runs through a flexible tunnel, under the seat. In one case that I'm aware of, this cable got stuck around a projecting seat spring under the seat. When the seat was reclined and moved backward or forward, the cable caught on the seat spring and the seat had insufficient slack in the cable to release from the reclined position.
