Question about 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix

Car no longer starts

Went to start the car yesterday, and it didn't start.  Got a jump, got started and made it home.  Drove 2 hrs, last 5 mins charging system failure light appeared.  Shut it off and immediately tried re-starting it.  No luck.  Tried jumping it today, but it only clicks.  Dash lights, head lights, radio, etc all work.  Bad wire, bad solenoid, or something else?

I have the same vehicle, on the ignition module behind the key tumbler there is a block of wires, the pin for the start setting has a tendency to warp and make bad contact. I pulled it all apart cleaned the connectors and bent the pin slightly so it makes better contact then I put the wires back in and wrapped the whole thing with friction tape to keep it from coming loose again. Also there is a ring around the key tumbler that you will see if you take the housing off, push it in securely where it connects to the ignition module, its part of that theft deterrent system that kills GM vehicles.

Check battery terminals make sure they are not corroded and that the are tightly secured. If all is good the battery is at fault. Replace battery and then have charging system checked to make sure the alternator is working fine. Or you can remove the battery and have it load tested a t an Auto_zone for free.

I would look to see if you got a broken ground wire!!! witch are a big thing on todays computered cars. I know you have dumped a lot of money in your lawn ornament but one unhooked or dirty ground wire not making a connection can reak havick with everything, I would chk.for ground issues like around the fuel tank and where they hook to engine to body to frame or k-member.

Sounds like an antitheft problem I would start with the antitheft system. Usually when you only have one key all keys have to be programmed together even the original. When you have more than one it is easy to program additional keys.
