Question about 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt
My daughter bought a GM Certified 2008 Cobalt this past September. This was her third vehicle and the first time purchased one without me present. She said I ask too many questions, so she took her fiancée instead. Well since that day she has taken the vehicle for warranty work three times and it appears tomorrow it will be the fourth.
This morning I receive a call for her, she told me the key wouldn’t turn the ignition and she just had this repaired a month ago. When arrived at her office building she was the only one in the parking lot in a not so good side of town. I grabbed her key, stuck it in the ignition and tried to turn it, but it would not turn. I then tried to move the steering wheel right and left while trying to turn the key, but it still wouldn’t turn. I lightly tapped the ignition lock cylinder with a screwdriver, jiggled the shift lever to insure the vehicle was in park, and even cursed it, but the key still would not turn.
I’m planning to visit the dealer with my daughter and would like to be armed with information about similar problems of this vehicle’s model. Can anyone help???????
If it is an automatic, the transmission shifter is failing, should be covered under powertrain warranty.

My daughter had exactly the same problem and the issue was not in the key but in yhe actual shifter which my local dealer fixed under warranty
