Question about 2008 Toyota Highlander
Need to remove and replace drivers side broken tail light assembly, but cant get at it. no direct panel access. what is the proceedure?
Open the trunk and along the bottom of the tail light, there should be a Philips screw securing a cover piece. (your car may or may not have this piece)
With the cover off, there will be another 2 screws securing the bottom of the tail light assembly. Remove the screws and pull the bottom out and the top is held in by two retainers that should just slide right out

There should be an access on the sides of the lift gate, that can be removed to expose the rear tail light mounting bolts. 10mm 4x is what should be there, you will have to use an extension and a swivel to get them out.
