My mom and I were at the car wash going through those drive in car washes and then our car just turned off. It shook a little before it cut off. What could possibly be wrong with it? The battery is not dead and we have gas in the car.

Re: Car cranks but won't start!(2002 jaguar x-type)
You got the wiring wet. Did they steam off the engine with a power washer? If so, they probably got the distributor wet and it won't fire the spark plugs. Have someone look it over and see if that's what happened. It may also be a fuse that got water-logged. You can sometimes use WD-40 to spray into the wet area to remove the water and get it going again.

many things will cause no start problems could have faulty ignition switch.use test light see if power going to starter if not check ignition fuse to starter.if power going to starter, more likely starter solenoid or starter faulty.if ignition fuse okay and starter and solenoid okay still no start problem could be in the ignition switch or inhibitor switch faulty.code scan for faulty theft security system which will also cause no start conditions.
It sounds like the ignition control module shorted out due to the moisture. Get yourself a spark tester from the parts store. Have someone crank the engine will you check for spark. Here is one that will only cost about $7. Once you know if you have spark we will be able to help you better.
2002 jaguar x type 2.5 litre code p1638 with a gear box fault display . code p1638 indits a problem with the pats system . anti theft but the light goes out before 60 seconds after turning the key on indicating the anti theft is recognizing the key. the car won't turn over. check signal to pcm for crank signal and it is good. no signal out of pcm to starter my guess is the instrument cluster, cleaned all connections at pcm, instrument cluster, and gem. customer has no extra keys
The alarm started beeping when I was backing up. And then it was also beeping when I had stopped and now it is beeping when I am in drive. This just started happening. I got the car washed at a car washing place, could this have something to do with it?
I am an old Jag mechanic and love the cars. BUT! I would not personally buy an 8cyl jaguar built before 2002. The engines had a cylinder wear problem that will cause it to lose compression. Most noticible when you, for instance, start the car in the garage and back it into the driveway to wash it etc. You turn the car off and then try to start it a half hour or so later. Engine will sound funny and the car will not start. The two combined starting proceedures has washed all the oil off the cylinder walls with injected gas. Unfortunately the oil was all that was holding enough compression in the cylinder to start it. I have had to remove all the coil packs and squirt oil in each cylinder and then try to start the cars. Usually works. Porsche and BMW had the same type material used in the cylinders but only BMW had like problems. Jaguar changed the material used in 2002 and eliminated the problem. Seems the sulpher in our gas was destroying the early cylinder walls. Buy a later car.
Check your door seals. There is a seal on the body and one on the door. Check those first. If they are in tact, then check the outside of your windshield. If it is rusting, that can be the cause. A fast way to find the leak is taking it to an automatic car wash. If you dont see where the water is coming in with the high pressure wash, you will probably hear it with the air blower. Good luck.
