Check the oil and the transmission for signs of coolant. also check the tail pipe for moisture you may smell a sweet odor at the rear of the car while idleing. if you want an i do this myself take your finger and wipe the inside if the tail pipe and touch your tounge and see if it has a sweet taste. if it does you have internal leakage through the head gaskets. if the oil is milky the problem is internal. if the transmission is milky the radiator transmission cooler is leaking. mike

Radiator / engine cooling problem

This sounds like you either have alot of air in your system or you head gasket is bad. Get a fluid test and see if here are hydrocarbons present in your coolant. I would say bad head gasket.

Floor board stays wet losing coolant regularly evn when it hasn't rained inover a week or two just the floor carpet upper portions are dry

You have a leaking heater , hose es or tap. That is why you are loosing coolant. FInd the leak by using a radiator pressure tester and replace /repair unit.

Overheating

You stated Coolant disappearing then I add coolant and stops overheating? If no puddles under car, check oil dipstick and see if it has coolant mixed witht the oil for a gasket problem. If no coolant you may have a bad radiator cap and losing the coolant as you drive. The pressure and pump will force it out as you are driving to where you are not aware of it.

My 2005 Scion XB is running hot, engine cooling fan comes on for a few seconds (about 30) then goes off. It is also losing antfreeze. Help!

have someone do a compression check for you ,, this will tell you if you have serious problems such as a bad head gasket ,, Look for obvious signs of a coolant leak,, does your exhaust smell like coolant? also check the fan relay, it may be worn or faulty causing it to stop too early in the cooling process, when you first start the motor, with the engine cool remove the radiator cap and keep looking inside the radiator , once it warms up,, ( this may take a while) do you see coolant movement ? you should which would mean the thermostat is working , Opening and closing , if not you may need to change that ,, which would mean the car is losing coolant through the over flow

Having issues with a 2000 chevy impala overheating have changed the radiator and the thermostat fans seem to be working ok but overheats at idle in stop and go traffic, after a certain amount of time it...

YOU NEED BLEED COOLANT SYSTEM.CHECK COOLANT LEVEL IN RADIATOR.ADD MORE DEXCOOL UNTIL COOLANT LEVEL IS CLOSE TO RADIATOR SPOUT.CRANK ENGINE LET IDLE UNTIL TOP RADIATOR HOSE GET HOT.WATCH TEMPERATURE GAUGE.IF TEMPERATURE GAUGE START RISING TO HOT ZONE.TURN OFF ENGINE.LET COOL DOWN.USE LARGE RAG SLOWLY OPEN RADIATOR CAP A LITTLE AT A TIME UNTIL ALL PRESSURE RELIEVED.REMOVE RADIATOR CAP.ADD MORE COOLANT.CRANK CAR AGAIN LET IDLE UNTIL TOP RADIATOR GET HOT.KEEP EYE ON TEMP.GAUGE ALSO.WHEN TEMP.GAUGE STOP CLIMBING.YOUR COOLANT SYSTEM BLED.WHEN DONE LET CAR SET A WHILE CHECK COOLANT LEVEL.ALSO FIRST THING IN THE MORNING CHECK COOLANT LEVEL AGAIN.AND BESURE ADD COOLANT IN THE OVERFLOW JUG TO THE COLD MARK.DONT OVER FILL THE COOLANT RESERVOIR JUG.WORK SAFELY DONT GET SCALDED.

Wher is radiator cap on 2000 cadillac sls was told to add coolant straight into radiator not thru the over flow tank

theres no radiator fill, the cap on the over flow tank is considered the radiator cap, thats where you fill the radiator, hope this helps.

1995 ES 300 - antifreeze is draining from reserve. took to a mechanic who did diagnostic. said everything was fine. said no antifreeze in radiator so he topped off. 2 weeks later, the car is running hot...

Is the reserve tank cracked or have a deteriorated hose going to the radiator? Remove the tank to find out. A bad seal on the radiator cap can also lose fluid. A coolant leak anywhere can deplete the coolant level in the radiator and reserve tank. Check your owners manual for antifreeze type and mix ratio with water.

Leaking coolant

Check the hoses connections if no help it is water pump/water pump gasket.
You can try radiator stop leak additives, but most likely you will need to replace the gasket and water pump as it will need to be replaced any way in a future.
Hope that helps
Good Luck

1995 legacy 250t wagon - overheating

Two possiblities; a blown head gasket, or a freeze plug leaking. If possible take it to a trusted shop and have the pressure checked on the radiator, they can tell you if your radiator is stopped up, or the freeze plug is leaking, and if it's blowing back in the radiator when you remove the cap then it's a blown head gasket.
