ABS engages without braking


You might check the rear Emergency brakes. The brake linings peel off the mounts and whirl around inside the E brake drum. The ABS sensors react to the garbage grinding up, blinding the sensors.

Is your ABS working properly? Under heavy braking the ABS should engage and 'pulse' the brakes on/off. It is normal to feel the brake petal flutter or pulse under your foot.

Under light braking there should be no pulsing as the ABS does not engage and you have changed the rotors and pads.

This question is VERY VAGUE...
How do you know that the ABS is not engaging?
Do you have a Check Engine Light?
There are many things that can cause you to have a ABS Light including but not limited to:
Low Brake Fluid
Dirty ABS Sensors
Air in your BRAKE SYSTEM
Dirt in your BRAKE SYSTEM
Bad Module
Worn Brake Pads
and the list keeps going on and on

Abs light comes on


If the ABS light comes on it could mean that its time for new brakes, you could be low on fluid, or your ABS is not engaged. Check your brakes first and then fluid level. If both of those are not bad, then go to autozone and have a diagnostic run on the ABS. Good Luck.

In my 1994 Nissan Pickup my ABS and brake light comes on whenever making right turns. What can I do to solve this problem?


Have you verified your brake fluid level in the reservoir?

Also, be sure your emergency brake pedal/sensor is secure. You may be causing the vehicle to think the E brake is on and if the E brake is engaged, all vehicles with ABS will disable the ABS system.

Look under the hood where the ABS unit sits.(on drivers side)

Make sure the engine is NOT Running and the key is OFF. Also check that the parking brake is Not Engaged at this time.

First unplug the two wire connector on the ABS unit. IIRC the wire colors for this connector are Red and Black, and they are of a fairly thick gauge.

The ABS/Brake light will remain on at this time if you start the motor, so skip that and look for a second connector on the ABS unit. This one has multiple wires and are much thinner gauge than the first connector. **Unplug this connector. With key OFF, pump the brake pedal 10-15 times. Start the motor and there should be no ABS or Brake lights illuminated on the dash.

You just completely eliminated the ABS Unit from your braking system and will only have NON- ABS power brakes from now on. The ABS unit will only act as an extended brake fluid reservoir and will not influence braking an any way...you will have to pump the brakes yourself if needed.

On my personal vehicle...also a '94 S10, I went one step further and fabricated an ABS pump elimination kit that allowed me to physically remove the entire unit and tie the lines back into the system using a simple valve found on many domestic master cylinders. I may fab up some kits if there is any interest, but it's really not needed...I'm just anal about my vehicles.

**NOTE: Some GM ABS units have two additional plugs besides the two wire connector, if so just unplug them both.

Abs & Brake light on.


I have found that the wheel sensors for the abs system get very dirty and cause the abs warning light to come on. You can try to clean them if you have the tools to take them off but usually you just want to replace them.

Your brake warning light and your rear braking problem may be caused by the same problem,
the cable sticking. Good luck!

depending on the system if it is 2 channel or 4 channel one of the sensors that are located on the backing plate located behind calipers is eithier faulty or dirty you can try brake cleaner these sensors use a small magnet pickup device to sense when the wheel "locks up"
