Question about 1998 GMC Sierra

Right rear wheel locking up

1994 gmc sierra had brake work done thinking that was the problem. How can I tell if the brake is locked on or the rear end is locked. The left rear wheel spins in forward and reverse. The wheel locks up even without applying the brakes.

thanks Boomer

Okay you had brake work done!!! "THINKING" that was the problem originally right rear wheel locking up! okay,,, so doing brakes has not solved your problem! I would maybe look into rear end bearing??? do you have any load road noise from rear and do you have rear end fluid in differential? question to you was the baking plate ""WET"" looked damp? or moister get at it!??? seal might have leaked all fluid out??? all the above would be good place to start! good luck I hope this info helps you out.Happy new year.

When i press the brake pedal you can see bubbles in the brake fluid reserviour.

Have you been bleeding with a vacuum bleeder tool or the conventional way. A vacuum bleeder gets out more air provided that everything else is done correctly.Like the correct wheel sequence depending on weather you have rear wheel anti-lock only or four wheel abs.Refer to a Haynes repair manual.

What does it mean when the back tire has locked and won't turn. I have a 1998 GMC Z71??

this could happen due to a number of things. over adjusted parking brakes, a jammed parking brake cable, a defective wheel bearing, clogged brake hose, swollen washers in brake master cylinder or in slave cylinder, damaged rear differential

Drivers side rear brake locks up on severe braking, then releases and I have no brakes

If you are dealing with ABS brakes you probably have a bad wheel cylinder on that wheel and air in the line. Replace the wheel cylinder and bleed the system.

Our 1997 GMC Sierra locks rear wheels suddenly

More likely to be a rear end issue. If the brakes have been checked I would have your rear end checked. Could turn into a very dangerous situation.

I have 2005 GMC 1500 4x4 When I turn to the right I hear the rear wheel trying to lock up when I straighten it stops what do you think it is

The rear differential is doing its job. The wheels are turning at different speeds as you turn, because the radius of the inside wheel is far smaller than the radius the outside wheel makes as it turns. The differential keeps both wheels spinning at the same rate, which means the inside tire is spinning faster than it needs to while in the turn.

Brake pedal vibrates while braking and doesent stop right away

There's speed sensors at each wheel. You may have got some contamination in front of one of them... sounds like the abs is trying to compensate for un equal speed at each wheel... and something may be blocking a proper read at one of the wheels...

2002 GMC Sierra 1500 rear brakes

Hi joelalthomas, if they replaced your brakes and you never even made it home they had better warranty the work and as for the "it was a common problem on 2002-2004 trucks" well check for Chevy recalls as this is a safety issue that would have been corrected at no expense to the vehicle owner, do a little more research my friend and let me know what happens, I will check around a little as well in the meantime I would find a new garage.Do not pay any more as you said your brakes worked fine until they worked on it good luck to you As for your 4x4 did you look at the left side when you did the right side? and were they bled off properly? you can visually check to see if the calipers are functioning
