locate the pump, release the belt tension, it has a bolt at the top and one at the bottom, the lower one is tucked in pretty close and is hard to reach, remove those, and have a pan ready ,, remove the hoses,
Your car does have rack and pinion steering. If all of the fluid leaked out somewhere and you continued to drive, you probably have 2 problems to repair:
1. What ever started leaking (return hose, rack, pressure hose, or could just be the pump itself) 2. Power steering pump was damaged from lack of lubrication (fluid)
Please check the fluid level in the power steering pump. After putting on a new hose the fluid may have traveled through the system and you may need more fluid.
It's the bottom hose. I just changed mine this past weekend. Take the power steering pump bracket loose and fold the power steering pump back. Can get to the lower hose and thermostat housing then. Make sure to bleed the air out of the system when starting the truck after replacement of thermostat. The bleeder valve is a bolt on the housing where the upper hose attaches.
The hoses for your power steering should be on the right of the engine, as to the ease of access, the lines are right there, however they're a little tough to reach without the proper tools and a lift.
The pump has to be removed from under the vehicle by removing the exhaust system from the flex bracket and moving it to as far left of the vehicle as possible..remember you have to remove the splash shield that protects the engine components first...then remove all associated bolts, hoses (plug them so they won't drip) and remove the pump from the vehicle..that it.
