Re: water was used in coolent system with no anti freeze,
Is the water pump now leaking? There are other components that may have been damaged. The freeze out plugs in the engine block are designed to pop out if the coolant is not sufficient and freezes. This is to save the engine block from cracking, which may have happened. U need to get the car in a heated garage, fill system w/ water, check for leaks, and get the car running to again check for further leaks or problems. The radiator/heater core may also have been damaged. Only way to find out is to thaw it out and check it over carefully for leaks. Let me know how u make out.

i had this same problem 3 weeks ago.... i know someone who works for GM and this is a common problem with these cars. under your glove compartment where yout passanger feet will stretch to there is a dash plate, when you remove that look for a plug sticking down with 4 or 5
wires in it. Unplug the connector and there are two 5.5 mm (I think)
screws. Not positive on the size. The one towards the front of firewall
is tough to get, but that is your blowermoter resister, replace that an you should be fine...
Well if the water pump was already inoperable prior to the freezing temp ,and assuming that vehicle was not severely overheated when water pump went out, This should just involve the changing of water pump and addition of proper antifreeze to cooling system..If the vehicle did overheat badly you could face many problems or could also be very lucky..( a little more detail would help at point of failure) worst possible thing is motor could be locked up, or you could be facing blown head gasket, cracked block, etc...) Answer back with details to get a more acurate diagnosis..
