Question about 2004 Chevrolet Malibu

CD Player Quit Working

I just had to replace the car battery in my 2004 Malibu since the old one died. After the battery was replaced, the CD player no longer works. It worked fine before. The radio works. We tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and removing and replacing the fuse for the radio. CD player still doesn't work. The CD player is a 6-CD changer and it has 6 CDs in it. When I press the eject button, it says that the player is empty. When I press the load button, it says "Load single disk," which of course, I can't do.

The radio works, so it's not locked. Even so, I thought I'd try entering the unlock code, but I can't get it. I tried to retrieve the radio unlock code by pressing #2 and #3 and also #1 and #4 on the radio, but nothing happens.

I called the dealer and they told me that there is probably something wrong with the CD player, that the CD player not working immediately after the battery was replaced is just a coincidence, but I really find that hard to believe. They want at least $50 just to check it out.

I've seen elsewhere where people have had this problem and sometimes unhooking the battery helps and sometimes removing and replacing the radio fuse helps. I even saw one guy who said his CD player just suddenly started working again.

Is there anything else I can try? And if not, how can I get the 6 CD's out?

Thanks. I'll try disconnecting the battery and leaving disconnected tomorrow night. I can't load a CD, though. Since it's a 6-CD player, you can't load a disk that way. You have to hit the load button and wait for it to beep. Otherwise, you might as well try putting a CD in between two bricks in a wall.

I have the same exact problem. After the battery was changed a couple of weeks ago, it now says "CD Player Error," but the radio works fine...I don't really get it.

I have a similar problem with my 2007 Chevy Impala. I was having trouble with my battery to which made the car die 3-4 times within a short amount of time. I dont' know when it occured but I finally noticed after replacing the battery that I could not play any of the 6 cd's in my player, nor can I eject them. It does not recognize the cd's in there. I attempted to load one to test whether or not there were cd's in there or not and it would not take it.

I'm going to try the expert suggestion.

The only thing i can sagest is that you leave the battery disconnected over night this may reset the cd player and it may Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} Recognise that it has cds in it
the only other thing i can think of is that when it says enter single disk only that you do so to a point don't let it go all the way in
this may make the cd player think there is a disk in there
hope this helps

CD player quit working after battery installation

Some of these new systems are very finicky, to reset you need to disconnect the negative battery cable wait a few minutes then reconnect, new electronics are sensitive to the difference.
It's possible the low voltage caused by the dying battery actually damaged your CD player, digital electronics are great but they have some serious weaknesses too.
Find out what brand and model your CD player is then go online and do a search for a service manual for your player, you may find an easy fix that way.
Best of luck!

Cd player quit working after i changed the battery radio still works fine.

kzingraff, I have a similar situation to Craig Waldie. I have a 2005 Durango and the CD player has not worked since I replaced the battery. Just like his 2004, the radio works perfectly, just not able to use the CD player. How can this issue be fixed?

My CD player did the same thing on my 2005 Chevy Malibu MAXX LS.  I know it sounds weird, but disconnect the car battery from the car (resetting the whole car system), and then reconnect.  I pressed the eject button on the console, and it ejected my CD with no problem.

Radio/cd player stopped working after battery replaced

Had battery replaced on 2005 DTS and afterward the radio/NAV/On-Star would not work.(Totally dead) The dealer who installed could not locate problem. (No GM dealer in Amador County, CA). I read several forums citing this/similar problems. I checked the three fuses labelled "radio, audio, NAV" by pulling, checking and reinstalling (all three were good). When I then restarted the car, everything was once again working! Poor connection? Corroded contacts? Some mysterious computer glitch? Who knows?

Check your fuses, the radio fuse in your fuse block may have blown when you rehooked up the new battery
