Question about 1987 Chevrolet Camaro

1 Answer

1987 camaro plain and simple we had the car running and tried to adjust the timing and it back fired and stoped running most if not all of the relays in the engine compartment are bypassed (by previous owner) car was running fine up until the backfire then it died currently the car has a 305 tbi motor which the previous owner converted to a carborated 305 he bypassed most of the relays in the engine compartment we have lights and that is it when the fans, fuel pump, and starter all work when hooked up to a hot lead however the ignition switch itself is not getting anypower what so ever and we are completely lost as to a solution to this issue

Sounds like the fusable link which feeds power to the ignition switch has gone to the happy hunting ground. this fusable link is bolted to the starter motor battery terminal along with up to four others.

Most likely the IAC (idle air control) motor is sticking and dirty. Clean the throttle body, make certain the accelerator cable and TV cable is adjusted properly. Good luck

92 Camaro RS Stoped in driveway hasn't started since.Itb is definetly a fuel problem .Pump is not running. Checked relay Ok. Took voltage reading at plug to pump, femal side, only showing 9 volts....

It sounds like there is a problem with the power wire. It could just be a bad connection but more likely it's corrosion or a broken end at one of the plug-ins. It could also be the insulation rubbed off somewhere along the way. It's probably easiest to run a new wire from the relay back to the plug-in. Hope this helps.

1987 nissan pulsar stoped working and wont spark

Believe it or not just as simple as spend the 180 on the spark plug wires they don't run even with three firing correctly. or check the cam or crank sensor. wires can be tested or looked at easily at night youll see flashes of electricity close to the spark plug wires.

I have a1988 s10 i am trying to get timed but when you try to start it it back fires thru the throttle body

This is only a suggestion but I had a similar problem. I have a 1987 Camaro Iroc z fuel injected. I had a similar problem with the car back firing through the throttle body. It turns out it was the TPI sensor mounted on the front of the throttle body. The sensor is mounted on the front of the throttle body to the left on my car, the opposite side of the linkage. Its black in color and has a electrical connection to the back side of it. Its triangular in shape and mounted with to hex head screws if this is of any help to you locating it. Try adjusting it first that may correct your backfiring problem like it did for me. If this was any help to you leave me some feed back.

Fuel pressure? Do you hear the fuel pump running? Read the codes to see if ECM is still alive. Do you have spark at the plugs? Remember all motors need 3 things to run air, fuel, and fire at the right time.
