Question about 2004 Infiniti FX35

Infiniti FX35 Audio is not turning on.

My son started messing around with the headunit on the Infiniti FX35 2004 in order to get it connected to boombox and accidentally pulled all the wires from the headunit connector (M58). They tried re-inserting them back but had a short circuit. After that I have with the help of my car mechanic re-installed all the wires and connecte everything back (hopefully correclty). After all that the radio is not turning on. The fuses were replaced. The wiring color doesn't match with the schematics that we have from ALLDATA or any other sources from the internet or mechanic shop. How can I check the correctness of the wiring and also fix the issues with the radio if it is still alive. When we were working on the re-wiring of the radio and had a short on the thin wire that connects from the radio to the face (control panel) the CD plaer started shoffeling disks so I am assuming the radio is still alive but it is a possible the amp is dead since it is not powering up. Or maybe the wires are wrong. Any help would be greately apprecciated. Kids, Kids, Kids! Small kids = small problemms, big kids = BIG PROBLEMMS!

    The original NISSAN schematics shows different colors of the wiring and the mechanics at the dealership said taht is normal practice to have the wires taht do not match the colors. My mechanic tested and reconnected everything back the way he thinks it shoud be but the re=adio doesn't turn on. Even the power is not coming up, but it did shuffel the CD's when we have accidentally shorted the thin wire (10 connector ) that going from the radio to the face panel. Everything works like Airconditioner and heat as well as any other option like fuel saving and trip e.t.c., but the radio.

    The car is an Infiniti FX35 2004. The audio system is BOSS without navigation.Men, if you can send me the wiring diagram for this specific system and also tell me which side should I be looking (from the radio side or going towards the radio). I think we have everything right connected but all the diagrams do no match exactly. Even Infiniti/Nissan dealership mechanics have printed the schematics for me from their system and it didn't match. The previous schematics I got from ALLDATA and Mitchell taht are being used by car mechanics and audio installers. I have all my friends at car dealership and mechanics looked at it and they were not able to figure anything out but what we have done already. Everything is working on the panel but the radio is not turning on or even shows taht it is alive. Kids might have fried the radio or the amp. By the way, where the amp is located. It might have a fuse taht needs to be replaced as well. When they had short the fuse bluup so it might saved the radio and amp, I hope...

    I am a bit familiar with electronics and have the multimiter so if you can, please let me know what wire should go where and how to check the voltage or figure out the wire placement in the headunit connector.     The radio is a standard BOSS (6 CD changer)audio without navigation. THere are 8 wires taht come to the headunit on M58 connector with 10 holes in it.

    The schematics says

    10 8 4 2

    9 7 6 5 3 1

    The colors of the wiring and placement right now is:

    1 Black

    2 LightBlue/Red Stripe


    4 White


    6 White/Blue thick wire(+)

    7 Grey

    8 Re/White Stripe

    9 Red

    10 Green/White

    The input pins shold be the the same unless I am reading the schematics wrong. Do you have the correct schematics for Infiniti FX35 2004 with the BOSS system without Navigation. It is a 6 Cd player with the casette. I need a Radio and Wiring schematics as well to figure out what goes where and how to fix it. All the schematics do not match what's in the car.

    If you could, please send me the pictures or diagramms to my email address: and it would make it easier for us to figure out. I should be able to connect 2+2 if I would have the right diagramms. Also, I think I might need a new radio to replace the one that is fried I just hope that the amplifier is still OK.

    I have checked the amp with the multimiter and the power does go to it when the ignition is turned on. So what does this mean??? Is the radio still wroking or I am wrong?

    the original NISSAN schematics? is the car a NISSAN or an INFINITY? whoever told that its normal practice to have wiring schematics not match the actually wiring shouldn't be working on cars. sometimes they might use a couple different colors but they will always list all colors that was used, i.e: blu/blk or red/blk... meaning this particular wire will be either blue with a black stripe or red with a black stripe. if they didnt match, the schematic would be useless. where did you get the schematic from?

    the internal circuits of the radio were probably fried, when the disks shuffled it could have been from a positive short directly into the disk motor, which is undamaged and still functional. if you have a multi-meter or a voltmeter i will be more than happy to walk you through the trouble shooting and help you determine the problem if you would like

    you said the wiring colors dont match, do you mean the colors of the wires are different than what the schematics say they should be? or do you have them connected in a different order?

Haha. boys will be boys, right? can you give me the model and serial numbers on the radio unit? they should be stamped somewhere on it, so i can try to find some info on it.
first thing is to find the main power wires. does any of the wires match the schematics description of the ignition input, battery power input or negative/ground? the battery power is usually red, orange. the ignition input is usually yellow or pink. and the ground is usually brown or black. these wires are usually solid colors and should be thicker than the others.
are you able to tell where the inputs for these are on the unit?
do you know if the radio is tied into the security system?

    lets figure out which ones are the power and ground. take your multimeter and fasten the neg- probe to a common ground. the power wire is hot at all times so with the ignition off cycle through wires with the pos+ probe until you find one that reads voltage.(start with the thick white/black one)

    then turn the car on and cycle through the wire again with the pos+ probe. the ignition input will be hot now so you should find another wire with voltage. now fasten pos+ probe to the main power wire and cycle through till you find the ground wire.

    in the schematics that you have, do the inputs pins on the radio unit differ also or are they all the same?

    no i haven't been able to find any schematics yet but i will. but first thing is to figure out if the radio is fried or not. we only need to connect the pos., neg., and the ignition input to determine that. if you have those three connected correctly the radio should power on if its still functional. after that we can find out if the amp is still good or not. 4 of the other wires are the speaker outputs and one is the radio power control wire to the amp. this is what controls the amp, it is a remote cut-off for the amp that turns it off when the radio is turned off so it doesnt drain the battery when the vehicle is turned off. there is a separate power supply wire that run from the battery to the amp, thats why its showing that its getting power, but it will not operate or even power on without that signal from the radio.

    what is the make model and serial numbers of the amp?

Fx35 rear hatch actuator replacement

Ok we have had this problem on the hatch of our 2003 FX35 and are about to return to the dealer for the 3rd time in just a matter of months! They have ordered and replaced the part both times. So is there any suggestions on how to get this resolved? We live about 60 miles from the closest dealer and it's getting beyond frustrating!

You need to make sure the battery is good. If you see moisture spots around the battery, it may be leaking. Did you leave a light on? Were the lights inside and out dimming before this happened?

Even though the CDs are shuffling, the radio is probably shot. Since you make mention that all of the wires are pulled out, I'm going to assume that you meant it was out of the molex connector (the little plastic thing the wires fit into, and plugs into and holds the wires into the radio). Unless you want to shell out a lot of money taking this to the dealer, you may want to try and trace the wires to their sources with a digital ohmmeter and compare them to what is supposed to be arranged in the molex connector. Then I would replace the amp and radio was these are dead.
Another option would be to run an aftermarket radio and wires to the speakers and find the power wires to the radio. This is the most "butchered" option, but might be the easiest.
I would forget the boombox. Car steroes are more than loud enough as it is and all this power puts wear and tear on the electrical system and can even damage components such as the alternator. Body integrity can even be compromised and cause rattles and leaks due to the sound pressure. I'm all for music, but this opens up more trouble than you or your son could ever imagine.

Cahnging the belts on the fx35

There are 2 seperate belts the a/c and the serp belt. In order to change the belts, there is a special tool that you will need to purchase or rent from Auto Zone. Without this tool you can not replace the belt. Once you get the tool it's one bolt that turns and lets the tension off the pulleys in order to replace the belts. Just did this last week on MY FX35.
