All pacificas are auto and have a slap stick this might be due to have the spring that attacthes to the transmission it could be that the shifter might have to be replaced or adjusted or your transmission might be shot.

Gear shifter is in Park, but dash reads it's in Reverse. Car won't turn over because it is in Reverse now.

You have to locate where the park ignition switch is located. Some are on the transmission and some are in the column under the dash. It probably got moved.

I have a problem with my shift gears, in order for me to drive (D) I have to put in on 1 or 2, to reverse (R) I have to put in on (D) drive, to park (P) I have to put it on reverse (R). Tell me what's

sounds like the cable from the gear stick to the gearbox selector switch has been put on wrong ,put the car into reverse so that the reverse light is on , turn the ignition off and find the gear selector on the gearbox , pop the end of the cable off it then put the gearstick into the "R" position and refit the end of the cable back onto the selector switch , hope this helps

there is adjustment down on the ******. I will send you a picture, what you will need to do it put on the e brake, and block the tires. on the drivers side of the ****** the shift cable is located, pop off the cable from the arm and pull the white clip, when push the arm foward that is park, and then easily pull the cable to the arm and put back the white clip10_30_2012_8_31_59_am.gif

How do you adjust the shift cable on a 1995 gmc jimmy, wont go into reverse or park.

On the 1995 Jimmy, the shift cable can come loose on the mount on the side of the transmission where the cable meets the trans. When it slips, the alignment goes off and causes the driver to not be able to put the trans into park. If you take a long stick you can push the shift arm on the trans to the park position and your trans will go into park.....what you (and I) really need to know is how to take the shift cable mount apart and reset it.

1997 t100 6cyl. 4wd. went through phase of actually having to put into drive to start. then had to turn ignition and move shifter through all gears until it started. now nothing. indicator lights seem to...

the shifter linkage has become loose or shifted and not aligning properly, truck will only start in park or neutral.
the linkage needs to be realigned and repaired. this should be done at a professional level. the alignment is critical, if it is near shift point it can pop from park to reverse, or change gear suddenly causing an accident or transmission damage.

Why does my 1991 chevrolet cavalier slams in the diff section when shifting the gear lever from park to drive and or reverse?

check your engine and trans mounts sounds like you have a bad mount allowing motor to shift up pop hood and look at engine while someone puts in gear see if engine comes up or kicks back it should only move slightly
