The instructions to replace the ignition switch is given below.try it and get the good result.
Things You’ll Need:

* New ignition switch assembly
* Wrenches
* Small screwdriver

*
Step 1:
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the terminal on the battery. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers by unscrewing or unclipping them.
*
Step 2:
Remove the steering wheel by lifting off the center cover, disconnecting the horn wire and removing the retaining nut and washer. Make a mark on the steering wheel spline and the wheel itself so you can line it back up precisely. Pull the steering wheel straight back to remove from the shaft.
*
Step 3:
Take off windshield wiper and turn signal switches by pulling them off as you did the steering wheel and disconnect the wiring. Slide the spacer sleeve off of the steering column.
*
Step 4:
Unscrew the ignition switch mounting screws. Pull out the ignition switch. Disconnect the wiring connector from back of the ignition switch. Simply loosen the tabs and pull it out.
*
Step 5:
Insert your key into the ignition. Turn the ignition switch to the locked position. Depress the retaining pin with a small screwdriver and turn the key to the Off position to free the cylinder. Once it is free, turn the key to lock position and remove the key and key cylinder.
*
Step 6:
Install your old key cylinder into the new ignition switch assembly. Make sure the contacts in the cylinder and assembly line up. Reattach wiring to ignition switch, slide it into place, screw in mounting screws and reassemble steering wheel and switches.

WARNINGS:These steps may vary slightly or additional removal of some equipment such as a tilt steering column lever may be required based on the make and model of your vehicle. Consult with your dealer or manual for details.thank you

Try this first: Take a coping saw blade, cut an end off of it, grind down the back side that is opposite of the teeth down. Grind it for about 2 1/2 " on a bevel until the end is almost at a point, but teeth are still there. wrap electrical tape on the non-grounded part of the blade to use for a handle.

You dont need instructions for that ...

all you have to do is ,, unmount the dash board, remove the switch, and as fask as you unsolder the wire solder them on the new one one at a time so you wont mix them up,, and then check to make sure its working,, (TAHE A COUPLE PHOTOS FOR REFRENCE ON THE ORIGINAL).. remount everything and your done.

A mechanic would check for power at the starter and trace back to the key switch. There is a neutral safety switch to keep you from starting the engine in gear that could have failed.

Here's a company that has pages and descriptions of how toreplace the ignition switch on GM vehicles. They are broken down into step by step detailed instructions. Here is alink to that page. They covers many ofthe in-dash ignition switches from 1997 to 2006 too. http://www.steeringcolumnservices.com/steering-column-repair-how-to-instructions/gm-buick-cadillac-chevrolet-oldsmobile-pontiac.php Lastly, I would have a new switch in hand before you begin, tosee what you are working on (hidden in the column) and accomplish finishingthis job quickly. My 97 JGC is acting up it rides fine once it gets a good take of but it is putting like it is losing gas pressure at times and acts like it wants to cut off. Fuel pump replaced.

I would take a close look at secondary ignition. If the problem happens under load (acceleration) I would bet the wires are leaking/bad or the cap/rotor has some carbon tracking. Try spraying down the wires/coil with soapy water and looking for any arcing. Also take a peak inside the distributor cap. you'll be looking for a build up of debris/moisture or carbon tracking which look like black lightning bolts.
