The instructions to replace the ignition switch is given below.try it and get the good result.
Things You’ll Need:

* New ignition switch assembly
* Wrenches
* Small screwdriver

*
Step 1:
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the terminal on the battery. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers by unscrewing or unclipping them.
*
Step 2:
Remove the steering wheel by lifting off the center cover, disconnecting the horn wire and removing the retaining nut and washer. Make a mark on the steering wheel spline and the wheel itself so you can line it back up precisely. Pull the steering wheel straight back to remove from the shaft.
*
Step 3:
Take off windshield wiper and turn signal switches by pulling them off as you did the steering wheel and disconnect the wiring. Slide the spacer sleeve off of the steering column.
*
Step 4:
Unscrew the ignition switch mounting screws. Pull out the ignition switch. Disconnect the wiring connector from back of the ignition switch. Simply loosen the tabs and pull it out.
*
Step 5:
Insert your key into the ignition. Turn the ignition switch to the locked position. Depress the retaining pin with a small screwdriver and turn the key to the Off position to free the cylinder. Once it is free, turn the key to lock position and remove the key and key cylinder.
*
Step 6:
Install your old key cylinder into the new ignition switch assembly. Make sure the contacts in the cylinder and assembly line up. Reattach wiring to ignition switch, slide it into place, screw in mounting screws and reassemble steering wheel and switches.

WARNINGS:These steps may vary slightly or additional removal of some equipment such as a tilt steering column lever may be required based on the make and model of your vehicle. Consult with your dealer or manual for details.thank you

Try this first: Take a coping saw blade, cut an end off of it, grind down the back side that is opposite of the teeth down. Grind it for about 2 1/2 " on a bevel until the end is almost at a point, but teeth are still there. wrap electrical tape on the non-grounded part of the blade to use for a handle.

You dont need instructions for that ...

all you have to do is ,, unmount the dash board, remove the switch, and as fask as you unsolder the wire solder them on the new one one at a time so you wont mix them up,, and then check to make sure its working,, (TAHE A COUPLE PHOTOS FOR REFRENCE ON THE ORIGINAL).. remount everything and your done.

I received instruction from one of your experts that did not help at all related to my 2001 Audi Steering wheel being stuck in locked position. They said to try very hard to move it to the left or th

I hate to hear that you feel that way. I don't know who, or when, but I do know that an ignition cylinder can get into a bind, which can be relieved by turning the wheel (sometimes with extra pressure) to the left or right.

It's not always the case since sometimes it's the lock cylinder that is damaged or the ignition switch, but it is generally the first response to help someone without being there to test it.

I'm hoping that you got the problem resolved. If not, you may need a new key/lock cylinder installed. Sometimes, it's not even the lock cylinder, but it's the electrical switch that won't allow the key to return to a position where it can be removed.

And, then there's the shift lock linkage that can cause it to bind.

Good luck !

Installing a new ignition switch

Here's a company that has pages and descriptions of how toreplace the ignition switch on GM vehicles. They are broken down into step by step detailed instructions. Here is alink to that page. They covers many ofthe in-dash ignition switches from 1997 to 2006 too. http://www.steeringcolumnservices.com/steering-column-repair-how-to-instructions/gm-buick-cadillac-chevrolet-oldsmobile-pontiac.php Lastly, I would have a new switch in hand before you begin, tosee what you are working on (hidden in the column) and accomplish finishingthis job quickly. Good luck

The ignition switch is stuck in the off position and i mean stuck. The key goes in all the way with no problum but the switch will not turn keeping the stering wheel and gearshifter locked. so what i am...

I had the same problem and was told the pins inside the ignition start to lock up on older vehicles. This could also be caused by having a heavy key chain or many keys causing weight to hang from the ignition. I was informed the only way to fix it was to replace and rekey a new ignition which runs about $300-400. I can wiggle mine when this happens and usually get it to move. I'm going to ride mine out as long as possible.
