SOURCE: How can I remove a lodged oil dip stick?

Go down about a inch on the tube and drill two small holes horizontally to fit a metal coat hanger thru. Put the hanger thru and wrap it tight. Next bring your hood down half way and wrap the other end of the hanger tightly around the hood latch. A couple of quick pushes up on the hood will pop the tube out. Dealer price to replace the dipstck about $15. To replace the tube about $40

Hi!!

the dipstick tube is fasten by a bolt either at the bottom or in the middle of the tube, if it was at the middle, I don't think it would have broken. Look at the base of the dipstick tube where it goes into the engine block, there should be a bolt, use a 10 mm. socket and a long extension to remove it., then pull the tube out.

I believe the dipstick tube is bent, that's why the dipstick can't go all the way into the oil pan.

Good Luck!! Don't forget.to rate this post!!

2005 Dodge Grand Caravan/Broken oil dipstick removal/how to

A pair of needle nose pliers can be used to retreive it if its not too far down the tube. If you cant see it use a telescoping magnet slide it slowly into the tube so you can feel it make contact with the broken dip stick.

When the dipstick was removed, the top of the tube to the engine broke off. How to repair please? Thank you

Plastic dip stick funnels are always snapping off.

Remove what you can see down to metal tube. With small hook on end of stiff wire, pull out inner plastic sleeve from tube.

If it won't come out...push it down so new funnel can be installed.

It can't hurt as the tube ends one eighth of an inch from the oil pan floor.

FYI. You need to cover top of new dip stick funnel with cloth and push home until you hear it click onto tube.

One way is to remove the tube from the engine block or the other way is to use a coat hanger and heat the end of the hanger red and then slide into the tube as so it can melt into the plastic try not to wiggle hanger and allow to cool then try to pull out, this may need to be done a few times to remove the dip stick, note dont push down hard as to not push the stick in further, hope this helps.

How do you remove broken oil dipstick from a 1999 ford escort?

The dip stick tube is pressed into the engine block. Put a bolt into the top of the tube so that the body of the bolt goes into the tube and the bolt head rests on the tube (so it does not fall down the tube). Use a wrench (such as a Vise grip) to hold onto the tube at the bolt and gently work it back and forth, being sure not to deform the tube. Remove the tube and old dip stick. Replace the tube by forcing it back into the eng. block. Replace the dip stick - done :)! Some dip stick tubes have a gasket at the engine - others just **** up to a shoulder that is built into the tube. Let me know if this works. Thanks.

How can I remove a lodged oil dip stick? Top part of grip has broken off. Someone tried to remove it but lodged it in further down.

Needle nose plyers.
If those wont reach in far enough - you might have to remove the dipstick tube..

The dipstick tube broke in half and i can't get the rest of it out to replace it with a new one

For about $15 at the Home Depot / Lowes, you can get a magnetic snake. Use this to fish it down the tube and retreive the broken dip stick. If you can't find one, try epoxy gluing a small magnet on the end of a piece of rigid solid wire, and fish it down the pipe. BE SURE THE MAGNET IS WELL SECURED TO THE WIRE OR YOU WILL HAVE EVEN GREATER PROBLEMS!!!
