Question about 2004 GMC Envoy
Just one Christmas morning my Envoy wasn't plugged in and I tried to back up and the transmission wouldn't go into reverse. After a couple minutes sitting there it went into reverse fine. Then the same thing happened tonight after my vehicle sat in the cold all day -25C. Once it is warm it goes into gear fine. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Have you changed the filter and fluid lately. Check your service manual to see how often that needs to be done.

SOURCE: transmission - no reverse
i had to put a new trans in my 2000 jimmy about a year ago there is something inside called a "reverse hub" its made from aluminum and not very hard to break..when mine broke i was stuck trying to move in reverse and it heard a pop then a winding down noise and sure enough its the reverse hub to fix it i just had the trans rebuilt

Just like when you have a loss of 4x4 drives, it is a drive sensor and elevator problem. It seems like everyone of the major types of fixes like this are 600.00 at the dearlership,, takes about 2 or 3 hours,, but vehicle will run like new afterward. I dont think this is a do it yourself type of a project.

when gm transmissions start to fail generally the reverse gear is the first to display problems.........you will probably need to have it rebuilt or replaced.......sorry :(
hope this helps.....good luck!
