Front wheel bearing noise

Have a noise that increases with speed and quiets down the slower you go., not sure if the bearing is dry or some other problem

You need to regrease the bearings or change the haflshaft

Dronning sound, increases with speed. sounds almost like stuck in third gear but does not go away when coasting in nuetral


Check wheel bearings, most likely front 1 or both. get up to speed and take some corners, if it quits down when turning right, the front right wheel bearing is bad. If you turn left and it quiets down, then its the left front thats bad(important to maintain 30-50 mph). They are sold as the whole hub. Also check your front tires, run your hand across the inside and outside edge and see if they are worn uneven, this can make a lot of noise if the tires are bad. if thats the case, have someone check the ball joints and tie rods, if they are bad, it will do that to the tires, thus the unevenly worn tires making a paddling noise effect.

maybe a wheel bearing if you are driving and cut the wheel one way the noise should increase cut the wheel the other way noise should go away

check your wheel bearings, brakes and backing plate, since you said the noise is proportionate to speed i'm pretty sure its your wheel bearing, does the noise change when you turn (get louder or softer?) if so, i'm 98% sure its the wheel bearing

That's a hub bearing. Replace the one that's doing it. I'm assuming this 'roar' is coming from the front, NOT the rear.

Growling noise


That sounds like a wheel bearing starting to go bad. Usually you'll get a rumbling sound that will increase in volume and sometimes pitch as the speed increases. A quick way to check for wheel bearing wear is to first determine if you hear it at the front or the rear. Once you know that (or at least have an idea which end it's at), see if the noise gets louder or quieter when you turn. If you make a right turn and the noise gets louder, the problem is on the left side of the vehicle, because you're loading the suspension on that side. If you then turn left at speed and the noise goes away or quiets down, you reinforce the fact that it's on the left side because you're unloading the suspension on that side.

When you've determined as best you can which side and which end of the vehicle the noise is on, you'll know which wheel to check. Jack up that corner of the vehicle, and grab the tire at the top and bottom. See if you can get it to move at all by shaking it. A good wheel bearing will allow no play whatsoever. If the bearing is going bad, you may see that you can "shake" the wheel while it's mounted on the hub.

If you have a hard time determining which wheel it is, jack up each corner and shake each wheel in turn and see if any of them shake while mounted on the truck. If you find one that does, you're most likely looking at replacing a wheel bearing.

Try this out and post up what you find, and we can take it from there.
