Question about 1996 Oldsmobile Silhouette

1 Answer

2003 Olds Silhouette - 83000 mi. Heater doesn't get as hot as it used to. The temp gauge shows two third the way to the center temp. It ran at this poing all summer after it was warmed up. My thinking is that the thermostat is stuck partially open. What do you think? Thanks.

The solution you suggested sounds like the best advice. Due to the Holidays I have not tried it yet. I will this week, before tackling the next job of thermostat replacement if needed. Thank you for your fast response. Paul

That could be the problem or it could be air in the stystem ....on top left of motor you will see a pipe that comes up.. on top is a small bleder screw .... remove radiator cap fill to top with antifreeze .... open bleder until just antifreeze comes out

Where is the temperature gauge in a 2002 silhouette?

The temp gauge is in the dash. The temp sending unit is on the drivers side of the engine right below the thermostat housing where the upper hose is attached to the engine. This would be on a 3.4 liter engine. I don't think that is you problem but it is possible. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

My 1999 Chevy Malibu runs hot? It started when it overheated. We changed the thermostat, then water pump, then temp sensor gauge and the temp gauge goes high but only when the heater stops blowing hot...

Air pockets will make the guage do that, and also cause your heat to come and go. Also, a poor radiator, as in rotting, or plugged up, will cause high temperature issues.

1999 olds silhouette heat is warm when running but the gets cooler when idling also heater hoses have no pressure on them. I have checked coolant level added some. Checked for air in cooling system by...

The heater core could be clogged. If your antifreeze is orange , then it is Dexcool antifreeze which causes slime and sludge to build up in the cooling system. It can clog a heater core. My suggestion would be to drain and flush the entire cooling system with Prestone Super Flush. Put in a new thermostat while your at it. Refill the cooling system with a green antifreeze that is labeled compatible with aluminum engine parts and radiators.Do Not refill with Dexcool antifreeze.
