I found the sensor on the rear that i think you are talking about. That is my abs sensor. The sensor that i got isen't even shaped the same. The code that i'm getting is po500. I only know that because a have to replace that one too. My anti lock brake lights are on and that came up on the ecm too.

I 'll change that one, I need to regardless, but what do you think the other sensor is that they sold me at auto zone. They told me its the speed sensor. I'm really confused. How the heck are they gonna sell me a sensor that I can't even find on my truck?

Thank you so much. Changing the abs sensor fixed my speedo, and my stalling problem.

Hi my name is Allen!

The sensor you are looking for is located in the rear diff housing, its mounts on top of the housing it is also used for ABS if equipped.

The sensor in the diff, here is how it works. It sends a signal to the Antilock Brake Controller, then the Antilock Brake Controller send a signal to the Powertrain Control Module then the PCM sends and signal to the instrument cluster telling the speed ometer how fast the vehicle is moving then it moves appropriately. This is the sensor you need to replace.

It's not there fault, the after market material they have, most likely shows the speed sensor on the transmission tail shaft, but with this particular setup not everyone knows this info but Chrysler.

You need to check the out put speed sensor (OSS). This is a 2 wire magnetic pick up sensor and is used to measure output speed shaft. This is used to determine proper govenor PSI. This sensor is prone to internal failure and loose ground connection. Here are the location the output is located on the left rear trans. On 4X4 it will be before transfercase. Also If you change ECM put the old one back they have a security vin installed and it will need to be flashed plus it wont match and youll get weird drivability results. Let me know we can fix this together.

Had this exact problem in my shop yesterday. Turned out the connector on the speed sensor on the rear differential was broken allowing it to pull out of the sensor. Cleaned out inside the connectors and tied them together with a pull tie. Problem solved.

Need to change the abs sensor on a 2004 dodge ram 1500 4wd. where is it located?

Hello! It is located near the the wheel bearing, or hub; assembly. You will have to remove the wheel/tire for this and you will see it located on the back side of the spindle.

Hope this helps!
