1990 jaguar xj6 transmission problem

Hey, the gears in my car go in with a 'clunk'. The car barely moves forward when I press the throttle. However, if it gets to the higher speed, it runs fine. That is, above 60mph. Is my tranny in 'limp home mode'? I don't wanna go pulling it out when I don't know what the problem is. Also, my ABS light has been on since I bought the car and the ABS doesn't work. Will this affect my tranny in any way? Please help me.
Thanks....Allan

Hi Virtgen

If you have checked your automatic transmission fluid, and its OK.
Does it smell burnt ?
Sounds like you have a mechanical problem in the transmission.

The ABS light on is another problem.
This is usually associated with a rear ABS sensor faulty, due to corrosion in the rear hub.

Give me some feed back !

Yes it's in Limp mode it will only run in 3rd gear.

As for the ABS, there is a wire sensor that attaches to the breaks,

If they don't attach that when the breaks are put back on or if they cut it because they don't know what it is your sensor light will be on.

I have a 94 Jaguar xj6. the transmission light is on. it shifts hard in maybe 1st and 2nd gear. I've changed the transmission ecu, transmission relay, and fuses that have to do with the gearbox.

Change the xmission fluid and filter. If that doesnt fix it, it could be the solenids, the soleniod pack, what evey they call it on a Jag.

This is a transmission switch issue. That is locate on the side of the transmission. It either needs adjusting, or you need a switch.

1988 Jaguar xj6 No forward in the automatic trans rev works fine

the linkage is just a slight bit off, it parks between gears when you shift into the slots. Disassemble the shifter from the center console, and slowly move just the cable its self between the positions and see if you have forword gears. When you find and sync the gears, then tighten the cable to the shifter so the positions match the notches in the shifter.
