This most likely a bad temp sensor. There are two one for the computer and one for the gauge! I can give you schematics if that will help or the factory troubleshooting guide

1995 Ford Escort Wagon, turn on the key NOTHING happens. No click no dash lights no start.

Buy your battery there is a master fuse link that burns out to protect the systems. It is a smaller section of wire Lighter gauge that burns and separates. feel for it and look for bubbled wire coating.

this could be your problem and is a simple fix. Mike

Replaced cooling fan ,cooling fan relay, and 40 amp fuse. Fan still won't come on. Any suggestions? 1995 Ford Escort w/ 1.9 liter engine.

Did you check the parts before replacement? Check if there is power supply to the fan when engine is hot and the fan should start. Also check the temperature sensor or the automatic fan switch located below the radiator, it may be faulty.

1991 Ford Escort fan will not turn on and motor overheats.

some water from the tail pipe is normal but if the car is running bad then it is possible the head gasket is blown. on the escorts that i have owned i have found that the main relay is usually burned and needs to be replaced. it is possible that the fan is dragging and burning this relay up if this relay is good then you may be better off taking it to the electrical shop.

i had the same problem somewhat. my car stalled out and wouldn't start back up. they put in a new battery (my old one had exploded) and a new starter and something that connects the two. also, they had to put a new fan in... now that all is fixed my engine revs real hard... at 3 rpms so now they say it might need a new computer...
