Hi from uk the starter relay is a heavy duty relay known as the starter solenoid which if you look at the startermotor you will see a cylinder attached to it on the side and has the cable(positive + ) attached along with a thinner cable to a terminal on solenoid with lock nut ? alsoyou will see a seperate thin wirewhich is connected to a seperate push on spade or round terminal ? this is the solenoid energizer wire which activates starter when key start position is selected ensure all these terminals are clean/secure also battery terminals? then make sure the earth wire from _ neg terminal on battery to engine and/or chassis is also clean/secure from your symptoms it may be the solenoid energizer wire defect ? hope this helps you sort the problem? but by all means come back with update on progress best wishes from uk

CAR WILL NOT START HAS NEW STARTER NEW BATTERY EVERY THING WORKS NEW OIL CHANGE BUT WILL NOT START DODGE INTREPID 2000 2.7 ENGINE

First of all before you spend a lot of money with computer mechanic or personal machanics
try a little trouble shooting yourself. My sons neon would not start it started out as beinging a intermittent problem 1. It had a very old battery we replaced it seemed like this sovled the problem it started and ran for a couple of weeks, then same problem. This seemed like it may be a wiring or inition problem, jumped from the + batt. to the starter relay coil w/ key turned on it started every time was thinking it was the inition. Tried one more thing switched A/C relay w/starting relay in engine compartment fuse box. wa la no money for the greedy mechanic.

I have a 2000 VW Golf and am having problems starting it. I had the starter checked it was fine I was told that the ignition was bad so I replaced it, the car still will not start. Now they are telling me...

will not blame anyone 1st have you checked the black fuse box under the hood?if not, then look for main relay box(black) remove the cover, then look under the cover lid for relay locations. find starter relay.have some one Put their finger on top of the black square starter relay, then you turn your key switch to "on" does the relay that the fingers on click? if so,its'good. you also have what garages call a fuseable link.it's a hard black peice of rubber thats located in between the starter and the battery. but 1ST LETS COVER THE MAIN ISSUES WITH NO START! IS BATTERY FULLY CHARGED?A MUST! WHEN YOUR CAR IS ALL THE WAY IN PARK AND YOU TURN THE KEY TO START,NOTHING AS MUCH AS A CLICK? DID YOU HEAR A CLICK? GO TOWARDS A BAD STARTER CONNECTION,OR BAD STARTER.ARE STARTER BOLTS TIGHT? IS BATTERY TERMINALS TIGHT,THINK I ASKED THIS EARLIER BUT JUST 2 B SURE.

It wont turn over battery OK what could be wrong? starter or fuel pump

If it will turn over, and not start, you are missing either fuel or spark...Those need to be checked. (No fuel doesn't automatically mean bad fuel pump, as injectors need to "fire" the fuel.)
If it won't turn over, or clicks, and your battery is good, it might be the starter motor.

Will not turn over 2000 saturn ls2 battery, fuses, and relays checked good

As long as you KNOW the starter is good, it might be a sensor that makes sure that your car is in park. Could also be your ignition cylinder (what you put your key in to start the car).

THE STARTER WILL NOT TURN OFF

Sounds like you have a bad starter solenoid. Replace JUST the solenoid...save money....that'll fix your problem.....unless you just want to replace the whole starter assembly!

2000 Toyota Tundra starts occassionally. Sometimes starts right a way, sometimes have to turn the ignition key several times before it will fire. Battery good, all terminals cleaned. What should I check.?

Welcome to FixYa! You need to replace the starter solenoid contacts, or the starter itself.

Note that the starter is UNDER the intake manifold. This is a VERY difficult job, and is not recommended to those who do not have sufficient automotive experience.

If you DO remove the intake, you MUST replace the intake manifold gaskets, or your engine will not run properly, due to air leaks at the intake mating surfaces.

Ignition doesn't work

Check the fusible link that feeds the starter solinoid, the remote starter by passes it.
