Question about 2001 Volkswagen Beetle

Changing of Head lights-lamp replacement

I have to replace the head light--lamp on the right side. It does not look too difficult just appears to be very little room to negotiate getting old lamp out and new one installed. Any help, and is there a less difficult way on approaching this replacement.

My 1989 gmc serra the head lights don't light the road to well is there something I can do ? different type of bulb

dull head lights cab be from several things
1-bad reflectors behind the bulbs --any yellowing, rusting or dull reflector surfaces -- replace head light assemblies
2 badly aligned head lights-- beams shining off into space instead of on the road. --- have an alignment done on the lights
3 wet roads do not reflect head lights properly so it appears that the lights are not working well--- not much to do. the light reflects forward of the wet surface and not back to the driver
4 only one head light or no main beams and running on low beams only--- check light operation and check light control module for operation

Head light adjustment

no man on earth can say what is hard for you.
RTM and ask questions, then you decide.
old bulbs to go dim as does the kiddies that put in illegal lights
overloaded the system. so on all cars, for sure older.
you look first. see lamp see # on side and is it right for your car.
then the books, you can buy them. that book is called a FSM.
Ebay has FSM for sale everyday. used. and dirt cheap.
or find them online,
it's all there at "alldata dot com." (replace dot with a real dot)
or here.
its really a Geo-tized Toyota.

I have a few beetle ( vw and audi too) customers who are regulars for headlamps.
I first had this problem on my 96 audi a4 and I came up with a simple solution
If you have fog lamps leave them on all the time. my headlamp failures went way down when I did that.

Try this if you have fog lamps, my customers did not have fog lamps so they could not try it.

Hope this helps, it it does please leave feedback and vote Thank You and Good Luck

I need to replace low beam head light lamp, right side. 2002 dts

Pop the hood, remove the plastic cover over the radiator, remove 3 screws holding headlight assembly, yank forward, remove plastic plate on the back of the assembly, carefully twist and remove old bulb, replace new one the same way. Remember to change both headlights (even if the other one still works!) Changing only one will cause the older one to burn out quickly and besides, you'll have different brightness levels. Hope that helps.

Sounds like a bad Earth connection. Check for a poor/loose Earth wire bolt inside the engine bay near the head lights. Also check any of the plastic block connectors in the wiring loom for the head lights. Sometimes the metal spade connections are not secured properly within the plastic block and can be pushed back when the plastic blocks are joined together.

If you have an optional HID lighting kit, check/replace the ballast for the lights. If not, check for a wiring short in the harness somewhere.

Head lamp keeps burning out. replaced head lamp at

You either have a bad ground or the bad electrical connection at the light socket is "simulating" a bad ground. This is putting a high resistance on the bulb and it's taking it's toll by burning out the bulb. I would start with a new socket, and CHECK the ground. If you still have the issue, I would run another complete ground wire and not even worry about checking the ground itself. the Stick

Front of the drive side light fail light on.

Check the fuse box under the hood on the drivers side for "head lights" "Front lamps" something of that matter. Replace those fuses. If that doesnt work you may have a short in your wiring.
