u can start but the key will come out the key could be woren out or ingnition lock could be bad pull sterring wheel get a tool to press the lock plate down with to get clip off then take screw out sign pull it out then there a star screw take it out pull lock cylinder out put new in put back to gether
take the sterring wheel off get this horse shoe looking tool to press the in plate take the snap ring off 4 screws holding the turn signal switch in then you will need a t15 or t20 pull that screw out which holds the ignition switch in
Take apart steering column usually can be done while still inside car, and replace it, They are rivited in so drill out the old one and nut and bolt in the new with locktight. All plastic and sterring wheel needs removed just make sure you put steering wheel back where it should be
Wheel pressure on the sterring column will prevent the key from turning to start position, Try turning the wheel hard to the left to release the pressure before turning the key to start . If that doesnt do it then try to the right.
Before turning car off make sure the wheels are straight or take your hands off of the sterring wheel before you turn your key to the off position.
Lots of luck Jack
***As per Haynes Manual for your Vehicle*** Warning: if your vehicle is equipped with a suplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system, always disengage airbags before working in the vicinity of the sterring wheel to avoid accidental deployment of airbags.
1. disconnect the negative cable at the battery
2. Remove the steering wheel if it interferes with the access to the steering column covers on your vehicle. Remove the steering column covers.
3. Unplug the wires from the ignition switch, remove bolts and lift the switch off the steering column.
4. Installation os the reverse of removal.
Hope this Helps! I have a an illustration and it looks that the switch is on the left side of the steering column. If you need any information or help removing the Steering wheel or steering column covers let me know! Good Luck.
Push in the key, while turning at the same time. If it still does not turn freely. Try wiggling the wheel a little bit. Do not put too much force, the key may break inside the switch. If that does not work, make sure the car or truck is level . Preassure on the wheels places preassure on the sterring wheel also. Then try again.
