P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction OBD-II Trouble Code Technical Description Article by Dale Toalston ASE Certified Technician Transmission Control System TCS Malfunction What does that mean? Many vehicles have a control module for the automatic transmission called a transmission control module (TCM). The engine control module (ECM) communicates with the TCM to monitor the automatic transmission for faults. If the TCM detects a fault in the automatic transmission and sets a transmission related fault code, the ECM is informed of this also and sets a P0700 in the ECM memory. This illuminates the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) to let the driver know there is a problem. If this code is present and the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is illuminated that basically means there is at least one transmission code set in the TCM's memory. P0700 is an informational code only. It doesn't point to a direct fault in the engine, only a general fault in the transmission. More diagnosis is necessary to identify what the transmission fault is. This requires a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission module. Symptoms Symptoms of a P0700 DTC may include: Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination The transmission may exhibit drivability problems like slipping, etc. Causes More often then not, the cause of this code is that there is a transmission problem of some kind. The TCM detected the problem and set a code. P0700 means that a fault code is stored in the TCM. However this doesn't rule out the possibility of a failed PCM or TCM (unlikely). Possible Solutions For a P0700 the only real solution is to acquire a scan tool that will communicate with the transmission control module. Extracting this code from the TCM will be the first step in repairing the fault in the transmission. If the TCM compatible scan tool will not communicate with the Transmission Control Module then that is a good indication that there may be a fault with the TCM itself. Symptoms of a P0700 DTC may include:
1. Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination
2. The transmission may exhibit drivability problems like slipping, etc.

Causes: More often then not, the cause of this code is that there is a transmission problem of some kind. The TCM detected the problem and set a code. P0700 means that a fault code is stored in the TCM. However this doesn't rule out the possibility of a failed PCM or TCM (unlikely).

Error code 0700 aa1 aa2

Hi there:
The DTC P0700 is a Information Code The Transaxle Control Module (TCM) that monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. If any malfunction is detected, the TCM informs the PCM by sending a signal (P0700 code). P0700 means that a code has been set in the TCM.
This code is for information ONLY. If this code is present, check for transaxle codes. So basically, the P0700 code is telling you to check the TCM for a transaxle DTC. The TCM can not turn on the check engine light so it has the PCM do it, which can only be done with a diagnostic scanner. The self retreival method for chryslers with the ignition key will not pull up the specific transmission fault codes in the TCM.

Hope this helps.

I have a 2011 dodge caliber and it isz throw a c0700 code could u tell me what this is

P0700 DODGE - Transaxle Control System Malfunction

Symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Driveability problems
- Transaxle shifting problems

Possible causes - Shorted or open circuit within transmission control module (TCM)
- Failure of transaxle control module

Tech notes Since the P0700 is just and informative code, check the TCM for more codes to resolve the problem.

P0700 DODGE Description The transaxle Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. When the TCM detects a malfunction with the control, a signal is send to the Engine Control Module (ECM) to trigger the Engine Light or Service Engine Soon light. The ECM stores the P0700 code and it means the TCM detected a malfunction with the transaxle controls.
CLEAR THE CODES AND SEE IF IT RESETS. MOST LIKELY NOT A PROBLEM

Car does not run ,I check the code ,it is P0700

Because it is not starting, you should replace the Crankshaft sensor (above the oil filter, back of the engine)-it will cause a P0700-I have a 99 SL2, 178,000 miles

DTC) CODE # P0700....Transmission Control System (MIL Request)

The TCM can not turn on the check engine light so it has the PCM do it. The dealer probably saw the code P0700 and went to the TCM and pulled out the code stored there telling them the Transmission Solenoid Assembly (TSA) is bad. This is a good example of understanding what the codes actually mean. If the manual you looked at said the TCM is bad and to replace the TCM when you see a P0700, then it is wrong.

P0700 code?

P0700 is a code that tells u the TCM [transmission Control Module] has requested that the PCM [Powertrain Control Module] turn on the check engine light, u now need to ge the TCM tested for the transmission fault code(s) that were stored when the check engine light was turned on by the TCM through and by the PCM

(DTC) CODE # P0700....Transmission Control System (MIL Request)

Translation:
Transmission Control Module (TCM) Malfunction or Failure.

P0700 Information Code

The Transaxle Control Module (TCM) monitors the malfunction of sensors and actuators relating to transaxle control. If any malfunction is detected, the TCM informs the PCM by sending a signal (P0700 code). P0700 means that a code has been set in the TCM.

This code is for information ONLY. If this code is present, check for transaxle codes.

P1776: Solenoid Switch Valve Latched in Low/Reverse Position. The TCM monitors the L/R solenoid to ensure that the fluid transfer happens. It uses a Pressure switch to verify this. Usually this code is set by a switch that is stuck or a solenoid that is not mechanically operating.

A transmission shop would be better suited for this type of work.
