Question about 2001 Kia Optima
It should be inside the transmission fluid pan, provided it is an automatic transmission. You will need to drain the transmission fluid and remove the pan to access the filter. It will be held to the bottom of the transmission by 2 bolts or screws.

The transmission filter is inside the transmission itself. The transmission has to be removed from the car to chainge. 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 transmission with the v6 2.7 engine
