Driving check engine light flashed, car immediately shut down. What now?

Something major has malfunctioned. The shut-down is performed to prevent damage to the engine. Get it serviced.

Have 2001kia rio. Cranks and idles great but when put in drive and start somewhere if ck engine light blinks car loses power but if light stays on runs ok.What's happeninng.

there is a code in the computer that needs to be checked out. if the light is flashing then its indicating the problem can cause damage to the motor or the catalytic converter and requires immediate attention when the light is on steady there is a code that again needs to be checked out but it won`t cause damage right away. either way get it checked out and repaired.

I have a 2006 Toyota Camry that will crank but will not start.

V6? Is the timing belt broken? Do you have spark or fuel pressure? Was the check engine light on when it was running? The check engine light will be on anytime the key is on and the engine is not running so unless it was when the engine ran than I wouldn't be to concerned about it.

I have a 2001 chrysler voyager with a 2.4l engine. it cranks but no start. no check engine light

From a(Retired Chrysler Tech) If prior to changing the T-stat & belts you were experincing a no start,Then afterward it started & ran fine until you again worked in the same area as before, The first thing I would do is to check any and all electrical "wiring" and or sensors & switches in that same area, If your vehicle is equiped with a crankshaft sensor it may be at the front of the engine in close proximity to the harmonic balancer,"crankshaft pully"& the wiring my be routed as to be easily moved while working in the belt area..pay close attention to the condition of the wiring. any wires that are exposed(bare) must be repaired or replaced. check for loose plugs at sensors. Be meticulous in your search, the smallest thing will create a no start in this type of set up.

My 96 grand cherokee is shutting down, have replaced almost everything but crank sensor will this be the end of my problems???please help

If the crank sensor is failing, you should get a check engine light and a trouble code for it.
Have you had the computer checked for trouble codes ?

My drivers side Headlight won't go up or down. Guess i need to replace motor. I found one on line for a 1990-91 Geo Storm, are they interchangeable? They sure look alike.

Not sure if they are interchangable. Usually the motor is good, just needs a cleaning.

Remove the motor, paying attention to the relationship of the crank that attaches the motor to the light. Remove 3 screws and the motor comes apart. There is a circular copper area that electrical contacts run on the make the motor behave properly. Clean up the copper with fine sandpaper, and clean the finger contacts also. Reassemble and it may work. Check it for proper operation before putting at all back together again...Good luck...Chris

Car cranks over fine but won't start unless you press down on the gas pedal, sometimes theres a little backfire and then it fires right up. I was always told to not press the gas pedal on a fuel...

Hi,, your computer should be giving you a code. Do you get a check engine light? Most likely the IAC (idle air control) valve or throtle position sensor. If you can get the codes its giving you can track the problem down better without guesswork.

Temperature gauge is up and down

Sounds like youve noyiced the first sign of a failing thermostat. Its now taking more heat to open the thermostat or its jamming on the slide when it opens and closes.Good luck with it and pay special attention to your temp gauge until its replaced.
