Rotate the crank pulley. there is a mud shield in wheel well behind tire with a square tab that pops off the crank bolt is either a 19mm or 17mm

The rotor spins inside the distributor cap. At the end of the rotor is a curved metal piece. At each spark plug, inside the distributor cap are metal posts that are cut out. When rotor spins inside cap a spark jumps from the rotor end to the post, to the plug wire ,to the spark plug.The space between the rotor and post in the cap where the spark jumps, is the air gap.

How to Replace a Distributor Cap in Toyota?


Its a plastic cap and and on its top the sparks wires get connected.A small plastic rotor spins inside the distributor cap, firing each spark plug as it rotates. If the distributor gets faulty there the engine may not perform well. in most cases it has been noticed that only replacing the cap does not helps but with cap the rotors also need to be replaced. The procedure is as follows:--- 1) First of all disconnect the negative battery terminal. 2) Then remove the spark-plug wires . Note:-- Before removing the spark plug wires please note down how and where the wires are connected,then only remove the connections. 3) Then on the distributor there will be a cap.remove that cap.the cap is connected by two pins.you will have to press the pins from each side to loosen the distributor cap.Then lift the distributor cap from the top. 4)Then remove the rotor From distributor The rotor is fitted with two screws.Remove the screws and loosen the rotor. 5) Then lift the rotor out from its shaft. 6) To install new rotor and cap.reverse the procedure. This will help.Thanks.

Distributor rotor on wrong. how do I fix it?


the rotor cannot be installed wrong. you probably didn't return the cables to their original positions. is your distributor cap marked with a #1 near one of the terminals? your firing order is 1342 so look and see which two cables are placed wrong. depending on which way your rotor spins, the order must be as stated. you will find that only two wires are mixed up because if it is completely wrong it would not start at all.

it depends on if it's just the rotor spinning or the shaft on which it sits. if the shaft itself is spinning, it's relatively serious. it is probable that the whole distributor has to be replaced, with care being taken to ascertain the state of the mechanism that drives it.

How do i replace the distributor in a 91 firebird with 3.1 v6


Best practice is to remove #1 spark plug, roll engine over by hand until #1 piston at top dead center on compression stroke. Remove dist cap , find a surface outside of dist to mark direction rotor is pointing then mark dist body position. Remove dist ,you will notice as you lift dist, rotor will spin backward keep an eye on it, when the rotor stops spinning as you lift, that will be your dropin position for new distributor. That will get you close,enough to start car but you will need a timing light to set exact timing

when you install the distributor the rotor button should point at the # 1 plug wire on the distributor cap make sure you are on the compression stroke of the motor when doing this you can verify that you are on the compression stroke by removing the #1 spark plug and turning the engine over while holding your fingure over the spark plug hole it will push your finger off the hole you need to spin the engine .spin the engine over slow while doing this so you don,t pass the timing mark on the harmonic balancer.

2000 nissan frontier going down the highway and just shuts off when i took the distributor cap off the rotor button was not turning as i turned the truck over is that a bad distributor


I'm not familiar with your car, but the distributor rotor should turn whenever the engine is cranked, if not check to make sure the rotor screw isn't missing (if it has one, some are held in with a spline instead), try spinning the rotor by hand if the rotor turns but not the shaft the rotor is broken, if the shaft spins the drive gear pin is sheared or the cam gear is shot.

Rotor in the Distributor does not turn


probably a broken timing belt. $500 repair. Connects camshaft to crankshaft and distributor runs off camshaft.

there is a little screw holding rotor to shaft rotate engine to spin rotor screw is on front of rotor on shaft

There is electricity to the distributor and the rotor spins, but the plugs are not sprking. 1993 Mitsubishi Mirage


Check the contact breaker is opening. Check continuity to the coil, and make sure the distributor contacts and rotor arm are clean.
