Question about 2004 Ford F150

Fuel pump still not working

My 2004 F150 5.4L broke on my a couple days ago. All signs lead me to believe it was the fuel pump. It would crank, but wouldnt start. Put a fresh battery in it, still nothing. Checked all relays and whatnot, finally replaced the fuel pump. Problem now....same as before. When I turn the switch on, Im not hearing the fuel pump kick on, and it obviously still won't start. $350 bucks down the drain and Im not sure what else the problem might be. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated...

I have a similar problem and I am desperate for an answer. I checked the roll-over switch and it was not tripped. All fuses and gauges are fine. I have power leading to the fuel pump, but sometimes the truck will start and run. I have put 300 miles on it since the problem started. Now when I start the truck it runs fine, then after sitting over night (in the cold) the fuel pump doesn't work the next day. If it sits for a few days, I can run it again and its fine until I turn it off again. It is an onagain off again problem and its driving me crazy!! Does anybody know what the problem is? Is the fuel pump going bad?

i have same concern! all signs led me to replace fuel pump and i did it then started twice but stalled both times , it will start and run fine with starting fluid so i know it's still a no fuel problem .still cranks but no start!

I have a 2001 ford supercrew that is doing the exact same thing. I have not replaced fuel pump yet. I want to exhaust all issues prior to doing that. It works then doesn't. Please advise.

If you turn the key to the run position, do you hear the fuel pump run ?

Cycle the key on, wait 10 seconds, then off.

pop the hood, and check the schrader valve for fuel pressure at the fuel rail to the injectors. If you have fuel pressure, it is not the fuel pump, fuse or relay.

If you do not have pressure, when was the last time you changed your fuel filter ? ( should be about every 30 K miles ).

If you pull the fuel pump relay, and jumper the normally pen pins, does the fuel pump run ?

When you say you "checked the relay" how did you do this ?

If you turn the key to the run position ( don't start it ) does the theft light go out ?

Have you tried another PATS key that is programmed for the truck ?

Do you have another RFID fob on the key ring ( Mobil speed pass )

Check under the dash on the passenger side for a roll over switch. If the switch is tripped it will not allow the fuel pump to tuen on. Just reset the switch and the truck should start. The switch should be square white with a red button coming out of the top if it. To reset it just push the red button down and you will hear it click.

If you are talking about the Electronic Fuel Controller, this is in the rear of the truck, on the cross member where the spare tire is at ( drop the spare to see it easier ).

Here is a picture of it :

Should be ~ 110.00 to buy a new one ( less online ) and a few min to install.
Install the new one with some washers as spacers, so this does not happen again.

This is assuming you checked the Fuel inertia switch and the fuel pump fuse and relay

My 05 is doing the same thing. I use starting fluid to start it and it runs great, when I shut it off it starts up again then dies right away. Does anyone have anymore info on the fuel pump drive module that was mentioned? Thanks

Should the power be on to the fuel pump with key in run position in a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer ES if the engine is not running?

yes the fuel pump should power with the key on that supplies the injector system with fuel when cranking.i would check all contacts before pulling the pump tho as many will find a dirty contact causing the problem

IF IT WILL RUN WITH STATER FLUID YOU HAVE A FUEL ISSUE. SINCE PUMP SOUNDS DIFFERENT I WOULD START THERE. CHECK FOR VOLUME & PRESSURE ON FUEL RAIL IF IT NOES NOT THEN THE PROBLEM IS IGNITON, CHECK FOR SPARK

Try inspecting your crank shaft sensor lead wire or replacing your crank shaft sensor. The ICM and also give you the same issues your having, but start with the crank shaft sensor first.
