Question about 2001 Ford Escort ZX2
How do I replace a cigar lighter in my zx2 2001?
It does not screw in - you must remove the two screws securing the rear transom, remove it, then the two screws securing the front transom, and remove it. Then you can ease the storage compartment/cigarette lighter assembly away from the dashboard, being careful not to lose the spring clips and detatching the two leads to the lighter.
After that you must bend the retaining clips inward (a small crochet hook actually works quite well for me) and push the socket assembly towards the front of the assembly (away from the dash as installed).
Once this is completed, the socket is pretty much junk, but then you can gently but firmly push the replacement socket into the assembly in the reverse of the extraction, and you should feel two 'clicks' as it snaps into place. Then attach the leads, put the spring clips back in the sockets of the frame, and gently push the plastic pins into the spring clips until snug, making sure to hit the alignment hole in the center bottom of the frame with the matching pin on the underside of the fascia.

even though the fuse is good, change it anyway and look for other bad fuses. it is possible that someone rewired and put wired them somewhere else. i just saw that yesterday. also, check to make sure a wire did not fall off or get broken/fried. if both power points are not working they are connected to the same power and ground points, whereby creating a circle/circuit. also check to see if one of the units is bad. if it take two to complete the circuit/circle and one unit is bad, maybe the circle/circuit is broken. you can test the units with two jumper wires and your battery/a jump box. these units are only + and -.
