I have a similar problem except I have a 2005 ford explorer sport trac. Some days it works and others it won't thinking there may be a short it the "tilt-steering" but don't really want to "rip-apart" the column to solve this issue!

Wiper/washer problems? Here are some more common problems.

  • Motor:
The wiper motor is commonly replaced and was often not the problem. Don't replace the motor yet. maybe it's not the motor. It could be a fuse or something at the wiper switch. The wiper motor has two windings, fast and slow. The wiper switch sends a ground signal to each motor winding. More often, there are problems with the relay, or at the wiper switch, or in the cable to the motor.
  • Windshield Washer:
Don't be too quick to replace the washer pump. The problem is often just a clog in the sprayer heads. You can clean out the sprayer holes with a needle, some have two holes, so look closely. Hope this helps.

Check for power at the wiper motor. If power at the wiper motor but no wiper action then replace the motor. if no power at the motor then use a jumper wire and put power to the motor. Does motor run? if so check for open circuit in the wire someplace.

Have you checked all of the fuses for power ?
The headlights have fuses in addition to the main headlight fuse.
Same thing with the washer pump.

Why no wiper fluid to rear wiper 2002 ford explorer

the washer pump for the rear window is located in the washer bottle under the hood that the front washer work out of. the pump may have stopped working and needs replacing. have someone operate the rear washers and listen at the washer bottle to see if you hear the motor working. if not then you will have to check the plug connection for the rear washer pump for corrosion, broken wires and power and grounds. if these check out ok then replace the rear washer pump in the bottle.

During a recent snowstorm, the weight of the snow was apparently too much for the rear wiper. It stopped mid-stream and is stuck. Simultaneously, the intermittent function of the front wipers also quit. ...

Check fuse no. 11 (10A) in the driver's under dash fuse/relay box. I suspect it is blown. It provides power for the rear wiper, both washers, and the intermittent wiper function for front and rear. It probably blew when your rear wiper got stuck.
