1986 suburban cargo door window replacement

Since you have a the original rubber seal from your broken glass, cut the seal from the outer edge of the replacement glass and just push it out of the remainder of the rubber. With the original rubber still in the opening on the one your putting it in, lay a strong string from top corner, inside the space where the glass goes, and across the bottom. Push the glass into the seal on opposite side from the string side as much in as possible and begin to pull the string straight out while holding the glass in and this will pull the rest of the outer rubber lip to the outside of the glass and your done. Just a little trick I learned in my youth that I've used many times.

How in the world do you get a new rear passenger side door glass back in after removing the broken pieces of one that was shot out with a bb gun?

Well, take the door panel off, and slide the new glass in after vacuuming out all those little pieces of glass with a vacuum cleaner. Installation, should be similar to replacing good glass.

WINDOW GLASS REMOVAL

NOTE: Window glass must be operable in order to remove door assembly carrier. Any malfunction that prevents the window (manual or power) from being lowered must be corrected before proceeding.

  • Lower window until window glass securing bolts are accessible.
NOTE:
If the power window motor is not working it can be renmoved to allow the window to be slid down.

  • Loosen window glass securing bolts and carefully press glass securing clamps apart.
NOTE:
If glass is being replaced due to breakage, remove door assembly carrier and remove broken shards of glass to prevent rattling noises in door.

  • Carefully lower the window regulator.
  • Lift window glass up and pivot forward, starting at the taller end of the glass. Pivot forward towards the direction of the side mirror.
  • Place removed window glass in a secure location.
WINDOW GLASS INSTALLATION
