Question about 1992 Toyota Land Cruiser

2 Answers

Engine knocking. I just bought a 1992 Toyota landcrusier Turbo Diesel Prado SX and it just started knocking on the Right side of the engine only on low RPM. When I am going over 50-60 kmph it stops. But it Just started knocking during idling. This is a rhythmic knock ...not a tap or slap. Anyone got an idea to help guide me when I take to the shop?

Diesel knock at low RPM and Idle is usually an injector that has a leaky seat or has a needle that has jammed up. The knock can normally be heard quite clearly as being at the top of the motor, run the motor at idle and loosen the injector pipes one at a time if the knock disappears on one pull that injector and have it checked.
If one injector is faulty the others may soon go, better to have them all done at the same time.

Hi,my 92 prado started making a knocking sound recently,we couldn't pin it down to one spot in the engine.
The knocking was constant at low revs and then disapeared.
Turned out to be the tourque converter knob had bust of and eventually destroyed the fly wheel and the transmission pump.
Definatley check under top cover and also drop off the sump to check for loose nuts etc.
hope this helps.

Please make sure earth/ground points are tight and free of dirt and corrosion. especially knowing this is off road car. fuses are clean. charge relay is working correctly, main fuse CONNECTIONS are good. the fact that it happens when you move , means most likely a loose connection.

My toyota prado lj78 diesel engine does not pull and does not engange gears propally, what can i do to fix this problem?

It sounds like the turbo has gone out. That will make a diesel sluggish and burn oil out the turbo. replace the turbo and it should be fine

Hi, I have a 1992 Toyota 4runner, new 2.8L Diesel engine, with turbo installed in it. It also has a lift kit with fairly large tyres fitted. My question is, is there a reason to why the car feels very...

the japanese have only just started to make a decent diesel engine.so its no wonder your old toyota is gutless, even with a turbo.(check out its bhp/torque figures) only option is check out a website called "diesel tuning.co.uk",(or others),and fit a small black box that can give you an uplift in power......

Need to install a turbo on a 383 stroker from a diesel engine, is this possible?

It is but not good, the turbo from a diesel has a lower compressor rate due to the diesel engine has a lower RPM ratting then your Stroker. The higher RPM your engine revs, the more of a restriction to your exhaust from the turbo causing your valves to over heat and then your burn a hole through them or your pistons.
A good size would be a T70 with a 0,96 AR exhaust and if your looking to get more power get the T76 with the 0.96 AR exhaust side. Guessing that the T70 should give you around 550 HP low boost (10 to 12 PSI) and about 600 HP (15 to 18 PSI) around 4000 RPM. Your compression should also be around 8.5:1, anything higher and your going to have detonation issues during your midrange and up and to nuts off your torque ratio that your just going to burn your tires during your boost stage.
Hope this helps explained the difference in diesel turbo and gas engine turbo and i vote for the T70B with 0.96 AR hot side.
Thank you for using fixya and good luck
