2001 chevy silverado 4x4 abs dash light wont go off

While driving in the snow the last few days I applied the brake pedal hard a few times to see how slick the road was and to see how the brakes would react, now the abs light came on and wont go out, light stays on all the time. what do you think the problem could be?

I had the same problem, and to add to that, when I turned my truck off there was a motor still running. I pulled the fuse for the ABS out of the fuse box under the hood and it stopped.

    I found this:http://www.automotivehelper.com/topic411...

You should be fine if you just pull the ABS fuse if you don't mind driving without ABS and cruise control because they are linked. Otherwise, you'll have to get the ABS module serviced.

My 2001 Chev Silverado 2WD has aproblem with ABS (yellow) light and the Brake "P" (red) light coming on as I just drive along. It will stay on for a while then if I turn the vehicle off and back on they are both off. Any ideas what to troubleshoot next?

    Thanks

Once the ABS light is on there is a problem with the ABS system. You can't really guess with this stuff. Also it becomes a safety issue when abs light is on the ABS system is in-operable. Here is my advice take your vehicle to any AUTO-ZONE store and they will check for FREE and let you know why this light is on it could be anything form abs sensors(wheel sensors) or something like that, they are four of them one in each wheel so make sure to get exact info as to what is the exact code and meaning. Good Luck feel free to contact t me if ou need more info

It could also be a faulty hub part of the abs sensor system is there. My 01 silverado needed both hubs and sensors replaced. Don't use cheap hubs if needed they don't last.

03 chevy 4x4 how do you bleed the abs?replaced all lines and bled with truck off.good pedal til start up then lost all.guy at auto store said abs needs bled.thanks

Have a look on this link below:
chevy abs bleeding Google Search

In particular a Youtube video:

Bleeding the ABS Brake Control Module On Chevy Using Snap On Solus Ultra
Sometimes it can be a nightmare bleeding the brakes. There seems to be problem after problem or no progress, irrespective of how many times you bleed them. Just a few weeks ago I had the same problem on a 4 litre Jeep.

Have a look on those two links. You obviously know how to bleed brakes and will pick up a tip or two online.

I was in the same position as you - hard pedal until start up after a brake overhaul. I wouldn't like to think how many times I bled the braking system everywhere and nothing worked. Eventually on a Jeep forum somebody suggested changing the brake compensator valve. I did .. and the brakes worked perfectly.

Read a few websites first. You'll het there in the end.

2010 chevy captiva abs warning light

Abs is a good feature on vehicles now days. It is designed to pump the brakes when applying, so it has very little skid of the wheels. , But without Abs if you slam on the brakes, you will still have conventional brakes, But the vehicle will slide more or less straight and hinder steering. With Abs you can steer and brake at the same time. Some cars have a feature to turn Abs on or off on dash. So if its a medium size car, Just pull the fuse and see if brakes are ok. This will save you big $$$ BUCKS. I have a 09 kia spectra and no Abs. I have very little problems in snow or rain. It depends on how fast you drive. I live in new york state. Good-Day! Rav4 intermittant hard pedal

If the ABS system were the problem, the ABS warning light should come on.
So I would say the problem is with the vac booster. The booster is between the pedal and the master cylinder. It uses vac to boost the pressure applied to the master cylinder by your foot.
You may have to leave the vehicle with a mechanic to drive until the problem occurs.

Why is brake warning light is on

It can be issue with master cylinder or the problem is there is still some air there in the system, that has to be bleed.Or else the parts replaced are not aligned properly/.I suggest everything back.

There are few help links mentioned below to troubleshoot the issue.

My brake lights wont turn off even when the truck is and my cruise wont engage either????

Your cruise won't engage because your brake lights are on permanently.
These are on permanently probably because your brake switch is faulty.
It's located near the top of your brake pedal.

My abs and brake light come on at the same time and stay on occasionally when I start my 2001 chevy silverado 4X4. If I turn the truck off and then restart it they will sometimes stay off.

Scan it,pull the codes when the lights come on and repair the ABS System. Most likely a Wheel Speed Sensor. Test all parts first,to determine if their bad. If you have no knowledge of these systems, take it to a shop.

Brake pedal a.b.s pulsation at slow speeds on dry road.It wont do it all the time. It is on a 2000 chevy silverado 1500 4x4. I can hear the abs kick in when this happens.

You may see the abs light come on in your dash. I would plug a OBD II reader in and retrieve the codes.
I would say you either have a sensor that has gone bad or possibly a wire is shorting.
You can see the wheel sensor if you turn your wheels, and look down by the wheel hub bearing.
You can here the abs go whrrrrrrrr, when you step on the brake, and your braking flucuating.
Please let me know what you find.
