Question about 1989 Toyota Camry

1 Answer

1989 Toyota Camry will turn over but won't start.

The car has been sitting for 4 yrs. Got it running it ran for a couple of hrs without moving it sounded real good. The first time we moved it it went about 1.5 miles, died in the yard and has not started again. We changed the oil and filter, fuel filter, air filter was clean, replaced battery checked all the fuses. Only put a couple of gallons of gas in it. has a new alternator. Can't think of any thing else to check, it was running good before it was parked.

Needs a tune up! Try some new plugs and wires, new air filter and fuel filter. Is it the 2.2 litre?

My toyota 4-runner sat for 3 yrs and now it turns over and wants to start but won't what may be the problem

If it sat for 3 yrs without starting then chances are it is the fuel. I belive most of the older toyotas had a drain on the gas tank, I would reccomend draining the gas and replacing the fuel filter to start with, just keep in mind that if it has an electric fuel pump there is a good possibility that it has gone bad from sitting. P.S. if there is no drain and you can't get the fuel pump to work and pump out all the old gas then I would suggest getting a universal fuel pump to remove all the old gas, or you can try to syphon the gas out and is a pain. Hope this helps you out, if you have any more questions then add a comment and I will get back to you.

Engine runs backwards when cold. After many trys runs and starts fine until it sits for a few days then same thing, Use the car every day an no problem.

I would start with changing your battery. Sounds like the polarity is changing for some reason. May have been jumped at one time backwards!! Weird!!
