My '87 did the same thing (@158k miles). With only 85,000 miles I'd say your car has another 200,000 miles ahead on it as long as you take proper care of it, I've owned 3 older accords ('83, '87, and 2 '89' models and put over 300k miles on all of them!) Your problem is most likely the Valve Cover Gasket because I have an '87 four door right now and it did the exact same thing. It's just oil that leaks from the valve cover onto the exhaust manifold when the car sits. then it burns off the manifold as the car warms up. It's definitely nothing major, a cheap and easy fix at a reputable shop and something I've done myself at home in the garage. Just make sure your oil stays topped up and get it fixed before it becomes any worse. Not to sound pompous but if it was worn valve guides/seals like the last guy said the smoke would come out the exhaust, not under the hood.Given my experience with these Accords with very high mileage, yours with only 85k should NOT have any problems with the valvetrain unless your car has been seriously abused and neglected, and believe me I've seen these cars take a serious beating and keep running like a champ. Good Luck,

I start my honda accord 87 it blows blue smoke until it warms up then it goes away we replaced the valve seals and it still does it

The car is one year from being antique. On a car that old you rebuild the engine, or exchange it for a rebuilt one, as opposed to replacing one part after another. Every seal and ring on the engine designed to keep lubrication away from combustion had done its job and lived its projected life by 1997. Good news is that when it reaches operating temperature, it is still working. Before you do a ring job, google around for a rebuilt engine.

Hey, i am looking to buy a car and i came across a 1989 honda accord sedan with about 160000 kms on it. When we started it up, we noticed that exhaust (or some other smoke that smells like gas) was coming...

20 year old car with 160,000 miles on the odometer and it is smoking from under the hood. Walk away from this car. The smoke could be just leaking valve covers and the gas smell could be nothing more than a gas leak. But it could be something far more expensive to repair. My advice is to walk away and find a good car with no problems. They are out there, so why take a chance on what could be a money pit,

1989 honda accord lxi fi oil light

Sounds like there is an oil pressure problem. Now this can be due to several factors. 1. low oil level in car
2. bad oil pump
3.bad oil pressure switch /sending unit
4. last but not least check oil filter and make sure its not clogged.
worn engine main/connecting rod bearings.
have pressure checked with a manual guage at oil pressure switch for the correct pressure. If that's good then the switch is bad and problem solved.
if it low then you will have to check pump and bearings. Contact if you need more help and thanks for using FIX YA

sounds like a fuel filter or more likely a fuel pump fault.low fuel transfer pressure, possibly a dealer would be cheaper than a diy repair unless you have the diagnosis correct.
