The car when accelerating, sputters like it is misfiring.
at my oil change, new spark plugs were put in and the problem continued. At home, I tried putting my 2000 spark plug cover on it and it ran fine. What is that cover about and what could be wrong? tks

CODE PO300 MULTIPLE ENGINE MISFIRE DETECTED CONDITIONS. POSSIBLE CAUSES.WEAK FUEL PUMP.STOPPED UP FUEL FILTER.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 41 - 47 PSI. try changing the spark plugs , this usually cause this problem if this doesn't work check the plug to see if it has oil on the end that goes into the engine if this happens then you need to rebuild the engine, good luck.
If so there is likely a misfire code that will help identify the cylinder(s) with the problem.
Check the spark plugs to see if they are pron out. Check the spark plugs and wire to see if they are carbon tracked (fairly common). Carbon tracking will look like a black line down the plug that is eroded into the porcelain. If its present than new plugs and wires will be needed.
The oil around the plug may be a sign that the valve-cover needs a new gasket. Oil on the plugs can cause a misfire but it is important that you check everything over. The misfire could be due to defective wires, boots, coils, spark-plug/s, injector/s, and so much more. Take a look at the cars maintenance history, Maybe it is over due for a complete tune-up or oil change. The car is 11years old, how many miles are on it? How was it running before this?
Sounds like misfire. Change spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor , fuel and air filters. Check for oil in spark plug holes. if oil found change valve cover gasket spark plug orings. they can leak oil into spark plug holes and cause misfire.
