Per your description, it sounds like you are missing an injector pulse from the ECM.
Check the under-hood fuse box and verify the "ECM1" fuse is good (12 volt supply to injectors).
With the key in the run position, verify you have 12 volts at an injector.
Barrow or purchase a "noid" light to verify you have an injector ground pulse from the ECM.
Let me know what you find and we can proceed from there.
Regards,
No fuel pump reset switch on a Jimmy. If your pressure goes up to normal, then drops back down after 2 seconds, you need a new fuel pump as the return is not working correctly to keep fuel in the lines.
Put an injector noid light at the injector plug terminals to see if your getting a signal from the PCM(computer). If not try to find a computer from the same vehicle that works and swap it into yours to check.A PCM swap will take about 15minutes.
Sorry to burst your bubble but a 97 jetta no matter what model including the trek I and trek II dont have transponders in the keys that didnt start untile the 2000 jetta's
I hve been having the same issue since acquiring my Dakota. I also have replaced the same things as you and narrowed it down to the O2 sensor or the PCM but was not willing to pursue it because of $$$. I found that I could replicate the problem at will which usually indicates you found the problem. If you go to your PCM while the truck is running jiggle the center connection going to the PCM. I your vehicle dies then this is the issue. Make sure the connection is clean and plugged in more securely. I have put a cable tie around the connection and have not run into this problem again. The MIL kept flashing and coding p0351(ignition coil). Bottom line, check the connection before investing anymore money.

Check the compression on the cylinder. Compare it to specs and to the other cylinders. If the compression is too low, it can cause misfiring. Low compression could be due to piston ring wear, cylinder wall wear, or improper valve seating.
Hopefully, it is just the battery. Try and jump start it to see if that works. If you do jump it successfully, drive it immediately to your preferred auto parts store and have them install a new battery.
If that doesn't work, there could be an issue with one of the components of the ignition system (ignition coil, distributor, etc). A problem here could prevent enough energy being transferred to the spark plug to ignite the engine. If it isn't the battery, then you should have it towed in to a mechanic.
Have you checked the relay to see if the pump is getting voltage ? If the pump is running, did you change the filter ? Have you checked for fuel pressure at the injectors ? Are you getting spark to the plugs ?
The first thing to check is the ignition timing then the spark plug gaps. There are specific settings/size for the above and must be correct for the car to run smoothly.
Hello, If this is a push rod engine I had an identical problem with an engine in my 1988-1989 Jeep Wagoneer. It was a Buick V-8 and behaved exactly like your Ford engine.
On my engine it was weak valve springs. You could take your thumb and push on the valve spring while the engine idled and the engine would miss out. Turn it off and start it up and it would idle smoothly, rev it up and let off the gas and it would miss out and shake. You could also have hydraulic lifters (check your model) and they could behave like this. At idle the lifters would pump up, but the lifters may not refill fast enough to work the valves smoothly.
If you have hydraulic lifters they must be centered in their travel to pump correctly. Even if you have solid lifters the valve adjustment can affect engine performance.
Are you sure you put the spark plug wires back on the correct plug? obviously a new set of plugs wont hurt a car, and if this happened after you did the plugs and it never did it before, i would say check the order of your wires,
Hi check all the fuse. fi the fuse are ok . remove the coil pack and reverce if the cly missifire change replace the coil if not chage replace the electronic comtrol module ok.
i was once pulling a trailer with a ranger when it suddenly lost power and the engine died. turns out the problem was with the fuel shut off inertia switch. the switch is supposed to activate in case of accident. on my model the inertia switch is located in the passenger side under the glove box. dont know where yours is located. once you find it, just push the button and see if it resets. good luck.
does the check engine light flash or is it on when the car misfires?? Bythe way, Nissan has a new program available for your ECM/computer for the long cranking condition. Check with your local NIssan dealer. Also spark plugs are rated for 105K, You have 110K on it. Check your plugs and make sure, that you use NGK if they need to be replaced. Also, look at your overflow bottle. If its down, top it off to FULL mark and monitor the level for few days. See if it goes down in like a week. I have seen some headgasket problems, where the coolant gets into the cylinders and drown the spark plug, causing a misfire. Let me know what you find. Lets get to the bottom of this and lets fix it.
