Question about 1998 Ford Windstar

Automobile problem 1998 Ford Windstar van has electrical burning smell when driven a short distance, most noticable outside the vehicle. There is no smoke and the car is not overheating.

    Have you checked to see if there is an accessory that is not turning - an a/c compressor that is frozen or p-steering pump that is sticking and the belt keeps turning? That is the most common problem. Otherwise could be an accessory itself that has a bad bearing, but either situation should be accompanied by whining noise and burning smell. Depending on the smell, it could be a fluid leak on the exhaust, but you should be seeing oil, fluid leaks under the vehicle.

Check and make sure that you didn't pick up anything like a plastic bag on you exhaust system(maybe burnt on pipes looks dark brown or black) before you check any thing else. Good luck, contact if you need more help.

Coolant leak leaking on front passenger side near wheel well almost under the engine


check all your hoses run vehicle for awhile the inspect hose in this area. look for obvious things next check at the engine to see if a freeze plug is leaking then inspect you heater assembly the core may be leaking I'm leaning toward a hose or shut off valve

Strong gas fumes coming from 2001 windstar


The "cause" would be a fuel system or EVAP system leak. If the fumes are that strong, then I would take the vehicle back to Ford again and make the sevice manager stick his nose in it and then tell you there is no problem....

Antifreeze leak cant find the leak but can smell it burning when engine is running


head gasket problems are common on this vehicle. but coolant can leak from quite a few different locations on your vehicle. the only way to find it is to look for it.

Fusebox diagram for 2002 ford windstar van


Go to www.flmowner.com ,type in the year, make and model of your vehicle. Select "find my vehicle". Select "owner guide 1st edition". You will find the fusebox diagrams for your windstar starting on page 205. I hope this helps.

Replacing tension wheel on drivebelt


Click on the following free direct Link. It has the correct Serpentine/Drive Belt Diagrams for your 1998 Ford Windstar with either the 3.0L or 3.8L V6 Engine.
These have the Diagrams of the variety of Tensioners that are used. NOTE: Most of the Tensioners have three (3) bolts that mounts the Tensioner Assembly to the Engine. After removing the Belt: Remove the three (3) Bolts and remove the Tensioner.

Fixed ac problem now smell gas inside vehicle


burnt or unburnt gas? if burnt gas smell look for bad manifold or manifold to pipe (donut) gasket.
if unburnt smell look for gas line leaks
