Question about 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse

1 Answer

My eclipse has been giving me problem for a while now but now it woint even run and need a car for work. So one day when i was driving the car just dies. It turned over but would not start then fter like 8 mins it started again so i decided to go home and it ran for about 5 mins then cut off again. So continued this for 20 ins till home. Also the car idled weird like it went high nd low like 900rpm to 1300 constantly. my mehanic came and told me it was my tps or map but i told hime those are less than a month old so he then said its the camshaft sensor so i changed that out and then the check engine light went away and the car ran for 3 mins then died. Then I had my Friend mechanic come nd he said the iac(idle air control) sensor was bad so i changed that. Yet again did the same thing. So now i was told it is the computer. I already spent about 400 in sensors and changed the fuel filter. So a computer is costing about 250 to replace is this the problem. Plese help if you can.

It most likely is your engine management computer
it tell the motor everything it needs to know and all the sensors lead to it.
it can tell the can not to start cause it thinks it is going to over heat and many other things.
if it was just the idling then i would have said the IAC sensor
if it was just the stalling and not restarting i would have said the thermostat button but both i would blame it on what computed what the sensors send the management computer
if this dose not fix it then i don't know what would
the only other thing i can think of is the throttle body but this would decrease power quite a bit if you still have full power when the car runs then its not this
i am poitive the computer is out
hope this helps

Where the fuel filter is located

I personally have a 1995 Eclipse, same design. Fuel filter, depending on if its turbo or not, is either where steven said below your washer fluid reservoir (big plastic container) or behind driver side rear tire. Mine was under the reservoir (most hassle I've gone through to replace something, besides the belts D:) Hope that helps :).
