Question about 1994 Nissan Altima

94 Altima Running Rough

Troubleshooting so far is, pulled spark plug wires 1 at time, and found that #4 has spark, but I get no ignition. I replaced spark plugs, distributor and rotor. No joy. Before I take it to Nissan and find out that the computer is bad, how can I troubleshoot the fuel injector to see if there is an electrical problem or the injector is bad?

I ended up having to use a volt meter as noone around had noid lights. I did get current running from the plug, so I knew it had to be the fuel injector. I successfully replaced it, and now the car runs great again.

    Thanks for the help.

Hello dj, sounds like you may have some wires crossed and the ignition timing is off. Check the plug wires to make sure they are in the correct order--- 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 is the firing order on the 5.8 litre engine. If you removed the distrubutor, the timing will have to be reset.
Good luck, i hope this helps.

Changed plugs and wires on a 94 ford explorer and now it 's not tunning right. need a diagram. please.

FIRING ORDERS NOTE: To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement. If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes in your book to reflect how your engine is wired. I have intermittent rough idle on my 2003 nissan altima. car shakes in gear at stop, mostly fine in neutral.

Replace the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor. Next, check the idle air control valve and replace it if found faulty. If it still shakes, have the timing checked out

Timing chain tensioner

I have a '94 Altima with 2.4 liter 4 cyl. engine. At around 150K the timing chain and tensioner were replaced - should solve your problem, too. If you're sure the chain is rattling you should really get it serviced now, not later. Also, if your car is running rough it could be more than just the chain and tensioner; it could be your ignition system, such as plugs, coil, distributor, etc. Bottom line is, your car needs to be checked out right away.
