My key won't turn and a lock symbol pops up on the dash

This problem never happened, but someone other than myself drove the car today.

Its part of the anti theft deal.Just turn the steering wheel a hair and then try.

check all of your grounds a bad ground or a shorted ground can trigger stuff to go off at random plus if it started right up when you got the car jumped then yea it has to be a bad ground like i said check all of your ground wires and update me with the situation

no idea without a good look myself as this sort of problem from a description is difficult to answer unless your a dealer fitter who works on these cars all day long .Sorry i cannot be of any help but all i can suggest without a good look myself is a bad earth on the relay ?? But???

I have a 1997 Ford Thunderbird. Last night I was at the grocery store, came out, car started just fine, but I couldn't get it out of "park". The button on the side of the shifter (automatic) wouldn't go...


Try dis connecting the negative side of your battery for 5 minutes. Hook the battery back up and see if the theft system reset itself. It has to be the negative side only. Hope this works.

Car won't start, message says steering lock on


Try to turn the key to II-position. Then lock and unlock the doors with the remote. This will 'reprogramme' the key. Sometimes the immmobilizer chip will give the steering lock -code.

Ignition won;t start. The key insert is loose and turns but won't start


the ignition switch may need to be replaced. im not sure if a lock smith can replace the ignition switch, call around to see if they can.
