Car won't go forward or reverse

Last week I had my CV joint & front axle replaced on my 2002 BMW X5, now my driveline is spinning but my car won't engage in drive or reverse? Did my mechanic screw something up? I've never had any problemslike this before.....

I don't think that your mechanic had done his job right
take it to another mechanic and ask him to look it over
if he can write up a report about then make the previous mechanic pay for any damages and workmanship
he has not put the shafts in properly so the car is spinning in a scene but due to there being no connection to the wheels that why it wont move
you have got one of the best motor cars on the road and it is a shame some one had taken advantage of your car
i suggest if he did not do it properly you must get justice as you have got a good car you don't know how many us cars i have seen on here today but only one BMW and 2 japinese cars keep it and look after it
hope this helps and good luck
let me know what happens

Where is toyota constant velocity u-joint located

Like all front-drive cars using CV joints, there are 4 CV joints on the car near the engine. The vehicle has 2 axles (left and right, driving the corresponding front wheel). Each axle has 2 joints, one on each end. Typically the outer CV joints fail first, as their range of movement is greater due to steering the vehicle.

In modern practice the entire left or right axle is replaced when a CV joint goes bad.

Constant Velocity joints and U-joints perform a similar function, but are not really the same thing. U-joints are more typically used on rear-drive or truck-based 4WD vehicles.

Check your driveline for worn parts: cv axles(in front suspension) and all u-joints transmission to differentials.

2005 BMW 325i, Clicking when backing and turning or going forward and turning. Is this the CV joints going bad or something else with the driveline, or brakes?

If it is doing it while you are turning then it is a CV going bad. Most likely it is just one, very rarely do both go bad at the same time.

Does the 1988 Nissan Stanza have U-joints? The reason I ask is because when the car shifts it jolts. And when you put it in gear it jolts and vibrates. I looked under the car and I dont see a driveline. Is...

Hi, yes you have front wheel drive. The drive shafts are on each side going from the transaxle to the wheels. each axle has 2 constant velocity (CV) joints. This is a bit different than a U-joint but serves the same purpose. There are 2 indications of a worn out CV joint. Id the boot is torn, the CV will wear out due to dirt getting in. If you hear a popping noise when making a sharp turn, that is a worn our CV joint. If your boots are intact and there is no popping on turns, the odds are the problem is not with the joints but somewhere else in the drive train. Raise the car and turn the wheels by hand to see where the play is coming from. let us know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Ford focus - clunk in driveline in reverse when wheels are lock left or even right

Drive Axle CV Joint is bad
You will need to replace the complete drive axle,on one side of the vehicle, and inspect the other side as well
You will be getting a rebuilt part.
I believe, when you turn the wheels and back up ,it is the outer joint.

2001 BMW 325xi driveline vibration 45 to 65+ stops when you let off the gas. Also steering wheel feedback. could be 2 problems.

Sounds like you hace a front drive axle/cv joint that is bad. Raise the car in jack stands and grab each drive axle. Try to shake it. If you find any movement... it needs replaced. The dealership cost for this part is about $750 (another $750 for labor). If you want to do it yourself www.bavauto.com sells an after market part for about $200 which is just as good.
