Suggested repair is to drill them out and use a Heli Coil repair kit from your local auto parts dealer.

SOURCE: 1999 Chevy Blazer Starter

the starter is located on the passenger side lower motor. it has two bolts in it that hold it in place. it actually goes through a hole/slot in the transmission to the flex plate.

1st. disconnect the negative cable on the battery.
2nd. raise the vehicle safely and place a jack stand under the vehicle out of your way but near where you will be working(for safety).
3rd. remove the two bolts that hold the starter in place.
4th. remove the wires from the back of the starter.
5th. install in reverse order of above.

note: there may be little plates between the starter and the mounting points called shims. if there are then make sure you put them back.

There are no free full diagrams on the net, you need to charge and test the battery, clean the battery cables and run a voltage drop test as well, replace them if the are badly corroded. Kragen will test the battery for free.

SOURCE: Chevy S10 Pickup Starter. Removed the two bolts

Just changed a starter in a 94 S10 4x4. The only way to remove the starter was to take the passenger side exhaust manifold off and bring the starter out that way. Installation the same in reverse. Hope this helps. Don

How do you get to the torque converter bolts on a chevy s10 blazer 2003?

If you remove the starter, you can access the bolts through the starter drive hole... it isn't easy, but definitely possible.

I am replacing the starter on my 350 chevy motor, in a 1984 cj7. I took the starter out, purchased new, and can not get the bolt holes to line up

on Chevy small blocks there only two bolt patterns one with off set holes and one with straight across bolt holes
i ran across this same problem a while ago starter that was suppose to fit my motor according to part stores was the offset bolt pattern but motor actually had straight across bolt pattern i had to go back to i think like a 1969 motor to get straight across bolt pattern even but i know motor wasn't that old

if you have the correct bolt pattern make sure the starter not hitting on something (frame, headers, tranny lines etc.) if clearance is the issue you might need to go with a smaller starter (they work just as well but the starter motor it self is smaller in diameter) the smaller starter might not have as much power as the bigger one but shouldn't be a problem as long as your not running a extremely high compression motor

(the following is untested by my self but good friend that drag races says it true)
My friend Drag race car uses a starter off a 4.3L Chevy vortex motor( 6 cyl motor found in blazers, S10 etc) And it turns over his High compression drag race small block and gives him the clearance he needs.

How much would a starter for a 1997 Chevy Blazer

If you are replacing it yourself, the factory starter is $167. The range for aftermarket starters is between $90 and $170, plus the core charge. If you are going to have a shop do it, they have no right to charge more than one hour labor for this. Starter replacement is one of the easiest of the repairs. You disconnect your battery, detach the cable on the starter, remove the bolts holding it in and pull it out. The new one goes in in the reverse order.

i hope this helps
