Question about 2005 Jeep Liberty

Right turn signal blinks fast when brake is on.

When I turn on my right turn signal, then apply the brake, the signal
blinks at least twice as fast as normal. When I take my foot off
the brake, it blinks at normal speed. I don't believe this is that big
of a problem, because I assume the back right tailight is still blinking,
at what speed I don't know, but if someone has had this problem
or might know how to correct it, please let me know.

I just checked both front and back bulbs and all seem to be working on both right and left sides.

Thanks dgjtex. I suppose the only way to tell if the flasher relay

is the problem is to replace it?

Everybody, thanks for all the answers. Right now it sounds like

it possibly could be the flasher relay.

It's been so cold up here in Wisconsin, I really have not had a chance to check things out, but yesterday I did.

Let me describe what I found out.

As I mentioned before, when I signal to the right (right only) the

signal blinks normally, but when I put my foot on the brake while

signaling to the right, the signal blinks twice as fast. This time I checked out the back tailights to see what the heck is going on. I found out that when I normally signal to the right (w/o my foot on the brake, the yellow tailight signals (which is normal), but as soon

as I put my foot on the brake, the yellow tailight stops flashing

and the upper (Red) and the lower (White/clear) lites signal instead.

The weird thing is, when this happens, my lower (White /clear) lite

on the left side starts to flash (somewhat faintly) too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I fixed the problem by taking out each bulb (3 of them), cleaning

them off, and pulling the plug in the tailight assembly, cleaning that

up a bit, putting everything back together and it now works fine.

    Thanks for all the help.

If the bulbs are okay, the next to check is the flasher relay.

You have a bulb out somewhere could be front or back, but that is usually why it blinks faster.

The flasher relay would do it fast on both sides, check any side marker lights too. and the elements in the bulbs. It is what i have always found to cause this, a short could cause it also or a bad ground.

Your wire to the right brake light is making contact with the blinker. Usually in a GM the wires will rub under the box and short out there. Check the plug-ins on the rear of the frame for corrosion first, that could be the problem. If everything is good there then you will have to unwrap the harness to the right side of the truck and start looking for bare spots or cracks in the insulation. Just tape them up and you'll beokay. Hope this helps.

Turn signals blinking fast and stop when brakes applied

likely not, but change /check anyhow....If problem persists, likely you will need to change the module that controls directionals (usually under dash to the right of steering column)

Left Turn Signal Rapidly Blinks

Sounds to me like a bad ground. When the current can't complete through a ground circit it feeds back through the elements ancd can cause all sorts of wierd syptoms.

The fast blink itself can be casued by a burnt out bulb I would check that first.

Then I would check the trailter harness if there is one and unpluch any harness that may be plugged into it. also check each bulb to see if it is seated well. you may be able to see if there is corrorsionaround the bulb terminals at this time is so yo may need to replace the light assembly. Also you could look for any spot where maybe someone in the past tried to tie into the harness to hook up additional lights etc. this may allo moisture in and corroded to the point the wire is "open"

TURN SIGNAL BLINKS TO FAST RIGHT

The blinker usually blinks fast when a turn signal light is burnt or not contacting. Check the signal bulbs to see if they are contacting or in good condition. If that is not it. Try replacing the blinker under the dash.

Usually that fast blink is a good warning that one of the signals is out. Double checked that bulb is same # and all that ? What number is on the bulb? if it's 2057 or 3057, try pulling wires on side of bulb with fingernail, outward to make better contact, to see if that helps.
